Obituary of Tim Ruten

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, papa, and brother, Tim Ruten, age 60, on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital.

He was predeceased by; his parents, Iver and Myrna, father-in-law John Kroeker, two brothers; Woodrow Ruten and Doug Ruten, and sister-in-law Priscilla Ruten.

Tim leaves to cherish his wife of 36 years, Lorraine, and their children; Jonathan (Erin), Megan (Joe), Christine (Mike), Danielle (Logan) and their grandchildren; Esme, Hadley, Charlie, Amara, Emmett, Arabella, and Brynlee. Tim will be deeply missed by his siblings; Paul and Leona Ruten, Reg and Mary Hermanson, Stephen and Betty Ruten. He will also be remembered with much love by his brothers and sisters-in-law; Eldon and Phillis Kroeker, Gordon and Colleen Kroeker, Daryl and Cindi Kroeker, Merle and Katherine Kroeker as well as his mother-in-law Katie Kroeker. Also left with many memories are his nieces and nephews.

Tim was born in Spalding, Saskatchewan and moved to Burkina Faso, Africa with his missionary parents when he was less than a year old. He then moved to Steinbach, Manitoba when he was 15 to finish high school. He graduated at SRSS and went to Red River College to get his Electrical Maintenance Degree. On September 1, 1984, he married Lorraine Kroeker. Together they had 4 children.

Some of his work included dairy farming, nursing home care, Steinbach Mills, painting and Loewen Windows. His most recent employment, of 31 years, was at 201 Portage in Winnipeg which was also his mission field.

His hobbies included shopping at thrift stores and garage sales to find things mostly for other people. He liked to collect old radios and fix cars. He was known to be an avid practical joker, and loved telling jokes that he knew from memory. Chief among all his hobbies and passions was sharing the love of Christ through his actions, words and by generously giving to anyone who had a need. This only increased after his diagnosis of cancer in 2019.

We would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at CancerCare in Steinbach and to the hospital staff for the excellent care he received.
