Obituary of Edward Chatel

Peacefully, Edward J. Chatel passed away Monday, August 9, 2021, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

Born March 11, 1926, the third son in a family of eight to Alex Chatel and Albertine Levesque. He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters Alexina Sherbish (Joe, deceased), Leona Warzee (Adrian, deceased) and Rachel Foldy (Ludwig, deceased), one brother, Clovis Chatel (Aline Dufault, deceased) and (Sharland Stephenson).  

He is survived by two brothers, Marcel Chatel (Marie Jeanne Vandal, deceased) and Wilfred Chatel (Mavis Lempen) and one sister, Denise (Pete Geortzen). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews both in Canada and the US.

Edward enjoyed a long happy life.  He was a trucker for most of his working years but also joined the forestry before retiring to Woodridge.  In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family.  Always the joker, he had many good “drinking” buddies and was a favorite uncle to many of his nieces and nephews.

In his later years he so loved and enjoyed his cats and going for rides around town on his scooter.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Marcia Unrau, Guy Gerardy and Willie Friesen for their kindness, love and support towards Edward during his difficult years.  It has been much appreciated!

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest with his mother in the Woodridge Cemetery at a later date.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Bethesda hospital for the care Edward received.

Interment to take place at the Woodridge Cemetery on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
