Obituary of Elsie Louise Harrison

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Louise Harrison (nee Burnell) peacefully on August 22, 2021, at the Bethesda Hospital with family by her side.

Elsie was born July 5, 1936, daughter of the late Richard & Daisy Burnell (nee Skaife). Elsie attended school in Strathclair, Manitoba where she was born and raised. In 1951, her family moved to Winnipeg and she attended Kelvin High and St. James Collegiate.

Elsie married Robert David Harrison on October 23, 1954. They raised seven girls. They resided in Portage La Prairie, Winnipeg, Lac du Bonnet and Steinbach. Elsie worked in retail, for Canada Post, in home sales and managed Pic-A-Pop and the Steinbach Bus Depot. She loved bowling, writing little rhymes, sewing, knitting, visiting, playing cards and board games. She loved a good joke. Until her death, Elsie (Mom) lived a good life in her own home on her own terms.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob), grandchildren Rick, Christoper and Michael, great-grandchild, Jace, and a special friend, Lyle Johnston.

Survived by seven daughters Roberta Stevens-Miller (Ben), Wynona Parent (Norman), Wendy Rempel (Abe), Diane Harrison (Trevor Eyssens), Shirley Martens (Paul), Jackie Harrison (Gasper Russo) and Laurie Broesky (Lynden); 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one sister (Juanita) and three brothers (Les, Dennis and Don).

Sincere thanks to the caring & compassionate staff, nurses and doctors on the Main Floor and in Emergency at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

In keeping with Elsie’s wishes, cremation will take place.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.

A few tears may be shed, but don’t be sad,
For I am going to meet your Dad.
You will experience many joys and sorrows,
Keep your hopes up for all the tomorrows.
Heaven, they say, is a beautiful place,
Occupants are of all nations, colour and race.
Years will pass by, and all will be gone,
To a better place, far beyond.

Love Mom
