Obituary of Martin Dean Friesen

It is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, brother, uncle and friend, Martin Dean Friesen, on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

He is survived by his mother, Nettie Friesen, two sisters Justina and Allie, three brothers Charles (Bonita), Gilbert (Elma) and Merle (Crystal), nieces Ashton (Jamie), Chelsea, Lindsay, Mycaela, Kaitlyn, Amanda, Amber and Kylee, nephews Tyler, Mason and Jared, and great-nephews Elliott, Wallace and Jameson.

He was predeceased by his father, Peter N. Friesen in 1991.

Martin was born in Winnipeg, MB., on March 28, 1963. He was born prematurely and had an extended stay in the hospital. At six weeks old, he was released from the hospital and taken into the home of Peter N. and Nettie Friesen as a foster child. At the age of 6, Martin officially became a Friesen. He was adopted into the Friesen family and told his teachers how excited he was to get the last name, Friesen.

Martin needed very little to be content. He would drop anything to help his friends and family and never asked for much from anyone. His entire working career, 42 years, was spent at Granny’s Poultry in Blumenort. He was proud of his 35-year award and then his 40-year award. He was loyal to his employer and that was true in all aspects of Martin’s life.

Martin loved the outdoors. He had a passion for horses and owned many throughout the years. He loved to fish, help Charles on the field, use his chainsaw to cut down trees, make fires, and quad.

Martin’s use of tools and the chainsaw was sometimes questionable when it came to safety but when it came to his nieces and nephews he was quick to see that they were safe and not in harm’s way. He loved his nieces and nephews and they loved him! There’s a saying in the Friesen family that “every family should have an Uncle Martin”. Although he was taken from us too soon, he is now reunited with our dad and is sure to be telling him stories about Mom, the farm and family.

Martin we are going to miss you so much! We love you and are thankful for the time we had with you. The family would like to thank everyone for the prayers, meals, flowers and care you have extended to us during this difficult time.

The come & go viewing will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service.
