I worked with Esther at Canadian Tire for quite a few years. I miss her kindness and cheerful sense of humor. She was very considerate and on several occasions she brought me homemade muffins. It was always a pleasure to see her at work and I send my condolences to the family.

The world will be a different place without this beautiful woman. We met when I was a cashier at Canadian Tire and she always gave a listening ear and advice when I was struggling with my ADHD son, always said she was praying for us and she had a heart of gold, so you knew she meant it. Even years after I stopped working there she would see me at CT or a local store and big waves and a smile sometimes even a hug. She would even message on Facebook to check in on me when I was struggling when I was younger. She was truly an angel on Earth and she will be missed by so many.
My sincere condolences and many thoughts and prayers to the family.

I have known Esther for years, FB, Canadian Tire. I always marveled at her, how she baked for coffee break at her work and to give away. Her ability to crochet and give to people. She was talented and very gifted raised an amazing family. Her love for God was evident in all she did. She would often ask me what puzzle are you working on? She was so in tune to all. She will be missed but heaven gained a beautiful angel. Yes I will age myself I still listen to a cassette of Springs of Living Water she was so talented.

Having worked with Esther as a cashier for 10 years she has had a huge impact on me throughout my time at Canadian Tire- she trained me in being a cashier as my first job. I remember her telling timid me ‘don’t you worry, I won’t scream at you if you make mistakes.’ A regular thing we would do is ask each other usually around 3-4 pm, ‘so, what’s for supper?’ Often she had a great recipe to share. There will be many things in my day to day routine at work that will trigger great memories with my dear friend! Every week day, 10 min. before 9 am I will wait for her to walk up to customer service to clock in with a smile and good morning. Or our regular routine of me getting on one knee to tighten her ankle brace cuz I have always been her strong farm girl. ‘Little more, little more, k, that’s good’ I can hear her voice loud and clear. Love you Esther! To the family, you are in my prayers. Praying for strength and comfort!

Esther was and will always be grandma to me. Growing up she was always there for me when I needed a hug, a shoulder, or even just a friend. I remember when I was younger every time I saw her she always had a gift for me whether it be a Slurpee, a kinder egg, or my favourite, her hugs. I will forever cherish the laughs, hugs, and tears we shared. I would always go to their house on weekends and help grandpa In the shop, garden or the garage. I would often show up at Canadian tire on her shift and make her day with a hug of my own. I love you and hope to join you in heaven.

Esther I will always cherish the dishcloths you gave me in August before I took off for my new life in Panama. I loved hearing you shout over to me every day in Canadian Tire Aaaaallllllllliiiiii. I would shout back Eeeeesssssttttthhhheeeerrrr. We would both laugh. We would spend many conversations in the dining room. I hugged you before I left and my final words to you were God Bless you. You were an inspiration to thousands that passed through your till at Canadian Tire. I am going to miss you so much. But I thank the Lord that you are no longer in any pain and you are in his arms now. Sleep tight Esther. Till we meet again my beautiful friend. Mind keep on top of the haircuts.

My prayers are with Esther's husband Cornie, siblings, children and their children, and all of the friends that she met along the way. Mike and Lisa, I pray especially hard for you during this time, as I know how hard Esther fought this last battle with you beside her every step of the way. I am sure, like every mother, she was especially proud of Lisa for taking such exemplary care of her, and her medical team, to make each step as easy as possible. Sadly, God had different plans for your beautiful Mom. I know how hard it is, and that we may want to question why this happened, but please know that God had this all planned long ago, and because of that special plan, Esther is now seated at her Father's table in heaven. She is pain free and I am sure she is smiling down on all of you, even though she knows you are saddened by her passing. Know that I will continue to pray for your strength and well being as you learn this new journey without your Mom. She was a beautiful lady with a beautiful soul. She brought happiness to every life she touched, no matter how briefly. I know she was proud of her children, and their children too. I pray that the tears and sadness are replaced with amazing memories and love, and that your hearts go more toward the happy times than the sad ones. God is good. God takes care of us in our next part of our journey and he will do the same for Esther. Love, hugs and continued prayers for you all. <3 <3 <3 Tess

Oh Esther I will miss you so very much! What great memories and laughs we had while working together at Canadian Tire a few years back. Up until recently she would open her arms and say Hey BAVERLY!!!!! and I would respond with Hey ASTHER!!!!! Fun times we had! I’m so sorry Cornie, Lisa, Josh and families on the loss of your wife, Mom and Grandma. She truly LOVED you all so very much! It was evident in how proud she was of her grandchildren as well.
Sincerely, Bev Warkentin

My Dear SIS in law, as we would call each other. Her home was always open to my visit and that the "DUECK MOTEL" was always open.
She was caring and loving and we both enjoyed being in the yarn business LOL. When I would want to come over she would say to bring along some yarn and we worked together. She gave many gifts of her handwork to others and I saw the joy in her face.
Reality has not kicked in yet that she's gone but I know she's with Jesus .My prayers are with my brother Cornie, Lisa and Josh families.

Like so many, Esther was 'the face' of Can Tire to me. I too, chose her till, when possible, as it always added a personal little touch chatting with her. My son worked at CT previously with her, so she'd ask about him, which always warmed my heart. It goes to show you, how those little interactions in life, can leave an impact. An example for us all.She will be missed by so many in the community. A heartfelt hug of love and support to Esther's family, who will miss her the most.

The highlight of my shopping trips to the Canadian Tire store in Steinbach was always going through Esther’s til. Esther was always cheerful even when her heart was burdened with a concern for a loved one. The store hasn’t felt the same since she got sick. Our quick conversations, prayer requests and a wonderful hug were the highlight of my shopping trips. Cornie and family, please know that Esther loved you all dearly and that she will be extremely missed by many people!!
