I met Kim for the first time in 2012. We roomed together for a CCI event. I had only a few years experience as a camp director and he encouraged me very much by his faith and generous nature. He was a good listener and made you feel valuable. Part of who I am as a missionary in Quebec is a reflection of Kim's walk in this world. My sincerest sympathies to the family as well as to those at Red Rock. Kim will be missed, but most assuredly well remembered as a man who walked well.

My sincere condolences to Rowena and the family regarding Kim's passing! During my tenure (1998 - 2009) with CSSM Ministries (now One Hope Canada) Kim and I hit it off, perhaps, because of our love for basketball. Although we only scrimmaged a couple of times together at MB Christian Camping International workshop weekends, it was something that brought about a warm friendship over the years as we worked together in our different roles to touch the lives of youth and others for the Lord. Kim's competitive and yet easy going, loving relationships with all he came in contact with, along with his infectious smile, will always come to mind when I think back over his life and the privilege I've had of knowing this precious faithful servant!
Might you sense the Lord's sustaining Grace and His uplifting Spirit both now and in all the time ahead!

So sorry to hear that Kim has left this earth and his family too soon. Kim and I started working at Red Rock about the same time and I so appreciated his love for life. I haven't been back to Red Rock in many years but I am not surprised he spent so much of his life there doing what he truly loved. My sincere condolences to Rowena and family. Norm Dueck

All my life I looked up to Kim, both literally and figuratively. He was always great at sports, with a healthy competitive streak he inherited from our dad. He was always having fun and teasing, always smiling. He always had the upper hand at teasing until I finally found a chink in the armor…he owned a pair of shoes for almost every event and I could kid him about that. On the family front, he married above him (like me) and raised wonderful children. Kim had an amazing faith and I remember when I was looking at colleges he was concerned about me and encouraged a Christian college. To go with his faith, Kim also had works as he served as a leader at Red Rock Bible Camp. The book of James tells us that faith and works should go together, and Kim exemplified that. He was my first employer when I washed dishes at The Pastry Parlor, and he would get up before dawn to make the donuts. Kim gave me a New Testament one time, with this scripture that he wrote on the inside of the front cover: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15). Kim fulfilled this verse. I’m still looking up to him. -Cameron Coursey

What a beautiful service and celebration of Kim’s life. He truly has left a godly legacy to his family and all those who knew him. This was well represented in all the pictures of his life. He truly lived life FULLY! I will always remember him as the handsome, fun loving, happy young man who captured the heart of Rowena who at the time was my roommate. God had truly made them for each other. For reasons we do not know God decided to shorten Kim’s life here on this earth and take him home, to his eternal home. Rowena, may you and your family hold onto the promise that some day you will all be reunited. Love and prayers!

Kim Coursey lived and modelled the following with humility and genuine faith. His love for God and others will continue to have an impact for years to come. He will be missed by many. My life was truly impacted by God in the years I spent at camp under Kim's leadership. I can just hear our Lord welcoming him into heaven saying "Well done, good and faithful servant!".
2 Peter 1:4-7 &10-11
And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises... In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
So dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I loved seeing all the pictures! Thank you for that. It is so clear that he was loved by so many and that he loved others with his whole heart! It is evident that he lived life to its fullest and he finished his race strong! Kim was such a great example to me and other staff at RRBC as to what it meant to live a Godly life. I am thankful for the summer I got to work with him there.
Here is a funny memory I have of Kim: During one of the summers I worked at camp, Kim gave me an encouragement card, I don't remember what it all said but it was nice to read. However, there was also a bible verse written on it, I don't recall which verse but I remember it was either 1 or 2 Corinthians. I went to look up the verse and it was something about taking ownership of when you do wrong and asking for forgiveness. I was very shocked that this was the passage and immediately began thinking about what I could have done wrong that deserved such a passive aggressive approach from Kim. Then I had a thought, I looked up the same chapter and verse in the other book or Corinthians, that verse was much more encouraging. I confronted Kim and asked if he meant to give me the original verse and he said yes. I read it to him and he immediately began apologizing and corrected his mistake. We had a great laugh about it and I bugged him about it a few more times throughout the rest of summer.
My deepest condolences to the Coursey family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Kim will be greatly missed!

I had the pleasure of meeting uncle Kim about 1,5 years ago. We were able to talk for a bit as I got introduced to this amazing family. He made sure to reassure me that this was a good family. It showed me his beautiful heart and the kindness and warmth that he carried. It saddens me that I was not able to get to know him more but the beautiful memory will remain. Our condolences and love from Kate and me. (From the Netherlands)

Seeing these pictures brings back so many great memories. Like the time when we had a "hold your breath underwater" competition and Kim waited till we all finished (1 minute was the record to beat) and then swam the entire length from the deep dock to the ski dock in one breath - 2 minutes later he emerged victorious!! He was someone I greatly admired and God used him profoundly in my own life - and now the race is complete and he sees clearly what we only see in glimmers...Much love to the Coursey family as you navigate the waters without Kim to swim beside...

Kim was such a steady constant at Red Rock that I appreciated so much. He was like our wise grandpa who cared so much for the staff's safety, both physically and spiritually. He was quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger and demonstrated reading the Word daily. He left a legacy that only God knows the extent of!

So back in 2008 or 2009 when I was on staff at RRBC, there was this one time (and only one time) when us staff were being reckless in our free time and were caught by Kim. Now I know this is a shocker for many parents who assumed that we staff were perfect examples of safety and wisdom, but that wasn't always the case. Kim, however, knew that we fool-hearted young adults were prone to making unwise decisions, and always had a saying in his back pocket for how a certain percentage of accidents always happen on staff free time and we were best suited to make sure that doesn't happen. That being said, there was this warm sunny day when Kim saw several of us staff hanging off the second floor balcony of Pine Lodge ready to jump into a truck with a mattress in the truck box parked below. Well needless to say we got the aforementioned saying about accidents shortly after.
Kim had such love in his heart for all of us staff, and did his utmost to make sure we stayed safe so that we could live to counsel again. But beyond that, he emulated Jesus to us. His wisdom was immense, and his genuine love for camp ministry was something to behold. And I will always remember him for that beyond all the little sayings he had.
Thank you Kim, for everything.

Uncle Kim. K-sauce. What a great man you were. I always admired your commitment and love for Jesus and people. Many peoples lives have been impacted through your life; including mine. I always felt seen hearing “good morning, Katie” at camp. I will always remember your goofiness and light-heartedness. Even when you had your game face on in the staff vs camper basketball games. You will be missed by many. And your legacy will continue on in your family and the many people you have impacted.

“Maximize your time ‘99.” That was the theme at Red Rock Bible camp the year our family moved to Steinbach. We had a chance to visit the camp that summer before I started as youth pastor at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church. My wife Pam and I, along with our four children had the privilege to partner with Kim and Rowena at the camp over the years that I followed. Rowena, you and Kim always made us feel so welcome during our times speaking at camp. Thanks for that. Our kids have all benefitted from their time under Kim’s leadership at Red Rock. I also had the privilege to serve on our church Ministry Council under Kim’s leadership as chairman. Kim was a thoughtful, wise leader. Kim cared about people. He loved Jesus very much. I’m thankful for him and marvel at the impact of his life seen in his family and also the many people influenced by his life of ministry. I think he truly “maximized his time.” “God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present Help in trouble.” Psalm 46:10 “Peace to you” Rowena and family. In Christ, Kent and Pam Martens

So sorry for your loss Coursey family. I got to know Kim as a young teenageer in the 80's when I started camping at RRBC, and then got to know him even better as a CIT and then a staff member. I have very fond memories of him. I was a bit of a loner, and always felt like I was on the fringe of things, and he often took time to talk one on one with me and see how I was doing. He cared deeply for every child that came to camp!

Rowena & Kids:
Kim was a key mentor me in my days as a young Christian.
He showed tremendous confidence and trust in me, and empowered me to give God the chance to work in and through me. I remember our many talks about the Bible, about loving God and kids, and our epic 1-on-1 battles on the basketball court.
Most meaningful to me, perhaps, was the sensitive, Spirit-filled way he led us in worship; I still sing some of the songs I heard first at Red Rock when God and I are alone; I will do so again in the days to come as a tribute to Kim.
May you know the depths and duration of God's compassion and comfort.

Very sadden to hear the news. As a camper, I gave Kim a run for his money. Every year! Now as an adult and father of 3, I'm surprised that Kim never killed me. (I don't think anyone would blame him) He always showed love, patience and always believed in me that I could be and do better. I never knew him outside of being a camper, but he is someone I've always respected. I'm probably one of many kids that could share the same stories about Kim making an impact in their lives, and I am who I am today because of him. Thank you Kim.

I have nothing but fond memories of Kim from my years attending red rock Bible camp as a youth up through CIT camp. He even went out of his way to drive my brother and I to and from the camp so we could volunteer in the kitchen in the years after. He was an incredible leader and role model to the staff during his time as camp director. To his family: I’m so sorry for your loss. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
