Byron Rempel posted a condolence

To all the Koop family, I’d like to say that I’m sorry for your loss – and sorry that I wasn’t able to say goodbye to Ray. We hadn’t been in touch for many years and I didn’t even know he was ill. He was my closest chum in those awkward teenage years, and we spent hours and hours riding snowmobiles over the flat prairies – and probably even more hours trying to get them started in the middle of nowhere. He was always ready to attack a problem, and most of the time had a big goofy grin on his face. Those were traits that were so welcome in our friendship. I was surprised and delighted that he had gone into nursing as a career, and from what I know I see he also excelled at that. Love and respect, from Byron Rempel.

Our sympathy and prayers go out to Ray‘s family today! Ray had a big heart, which he used to spread comfort, and cheer to many! He was instrumental in helping me to get back to the career of nursing (my first love), at a later age, for which I am very thankful!

Thoughts and prayers are with Ray's family, my condolences to you all. We were neighbors for approximately 14 years, and shared many a conversation over the hedge. We always knew when Ray was at the door by the way he rang the bell, and his booming "hello". He could come across as intimidating until you knew him, but he was a big teddy bear at heart. I imagine John saying "hey neighbor" as you walked through the gates of Heaven. Ray, you will be missed and remembered by so many that you impacted throughout your life!

My sincere condolences to Ray’s family. I worked with Ray at Bethel Hospital many years ago and again at Salem more recently. He would usually arrive for an evening shift as I was getting ready to end my day shift. I enjoyed chatting with him during these times , he had a great sense of humour.

To the "Big Guy", my friend Ray. We shared a lot of great times in Winkler, mostly on the golf course. We were partners in the men's league for many years. I enjoyed the time just being with Ray, the golf was an added bonus. His smile was ever present as was his enthusiasm. The last time we spoke to each other was at a Steinbach Pistons game. We hadn't seen each other in quite a while, but our conversation was as though we hadn't been apart at all. That was Ray, always a friend. We left that conversation promising that we would go out for supper some other time when I would be in Steinbach, but unfortunately the province shut down shortly after that and our supper didn't happen. But knowing that Ray is waiting for us in heaven gives me the assurance that this promise will be kept when we will share in a heavenly banquet. Ray, you were a great friend to me, I will always miss you!

A beautiful Obituary that describes Ray just as I knew him. He had such a positive impact on everyone I knew. He especially helped me in my work life as he was caring and dedicated to helping everyone in the Health Care world, not just the residents. He will be greatly missed, but I know he will live on in all our hearts and is now free from suffering himself. God be with you Hermann and Martha and Carm and the whole family.

I had many interactions with Ray over the past 24 years from an I.T. perspective through Southland Electronics / Solutions in Winkler. We would chat about many topics from technology to his impressive workshop and tools, and his witty sense of humour always showed itself during the conversation in one form or another. He was more than just a transactional customer, it was easy to form a relationship with Ray due to his down-to-earth personality and the way that he treated others. Those types of customers are not numerous. Deepest condolences to the Koop family, may you find peace and comfort in knowing that Ray is no longer in pain but has gone home to our Saviour.

To Carm and family - You have said it well in the obituary. Ray made a huge impact in everything he did, and he cared deeply for those around him. Carm, I am so sorry for your loss, but I know you packed in a lot of living during your short time together. Just know that we are continuing to pray that God will comfort and carry you through this very difficult time.

It has been many years (30 to be exact) since Virginia and I left Steinbach. We knew Ray when we were youth sponsors at the Free Church. Before that I knew Ray from the Boys Brigade program.
We always appreciated Ray's parents and their influence on our lives...Ray grew up and was the same to many throughout his lifetime...what a tremendous heritage and legacy the family has left.
To each family member our prayers are with you. May the light of Ray's life be an ever ending encouragement.

My sincere condolences to Ray's family. I have such good memories of working with Ray. He was a great nurse and had a big heart for the people that were in his care. May you all find peace and solace in our Lord and Savior as you go through the difficult days ahead. Let Him carry you through your sorrow.

Carm, We thought of you and Ray many times over the last several weeks. After Garnet passed away we reminisced and looked at photos from “490 Ash Street”. We thought of you and Ray and how different it must look now.
We have so many good memories that we shared there as a family. I pray that you also remember the good memories you had there. It’s not the place, we know that…it’s the people we share life with. We are very sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Marina and Perry Reimer
