Obituary of Shirley Derkatch

The private family livestreamed funeral service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

Shirley Derkatch 78 of Steinbach, MB, passed away suddenly on January 4th, 2022 at her residence.

She is survived by her beloved husband (Lorne), one son (Dale), one daughter (Dena), one sister (Eleanor), one brother (Walter), seven grandchildren (Blake, Scott, Kelli, Madison, Dale Jr., Dayce, Drake) and one great-grandchild (Wynston). She will also be lovingly remembered by her two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Shirley married the love of her life in a small country church on November 17, 1962 in Angusville, MB.

Shirley and Lorne lived in a number of places, most notably of them all was Preeceville, SK., that is where their son (Dale) was born. Then they moved to Winnipeg, MB., where their next child a daughter (Dena) was born.

Shirley and Lorne loved travelling. Mostly to where their children played sports. Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Quebec City, St. Petersburg, Russia, Munich, Germany, Bolzano, Italy, just to mention a few places.

After living in Winnipeg for 28 years, they bought a hobby farm near Dufresne, MB., where Shirley enjoyed growing a garden and tending to her many flowers.

Shirley worked as a secretary for the St. Boniface School Division (for over 28 years) and retired from work early in life, so she could care and play with her grandchildren. They were first and foremost in her life.

After spending 18 years on the farm, they moved to Steinbach, MB., where Shirley got her beautiful dream home in the Millcreek Condo Complex.

Shirley also loved to sing. She and Lorne entertained at many care homes, churches and living centers in Winnipeg and southern Manitoba.

When the pandemic came, Shirley and Lorne recorded their first CD. This was to leave a legacy for their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Shirley was a very outgoing person. She laughed, talked and tried to help everyone.

Shirley loved dancing. She and Lorne danced almost every Saturday night to the polka party music. She also danced at all the dances she went to with Lorne.

She will be especially missed by her lady dance partners.

Shirley, you will be remembered forever, by everyone.
