Obituary of Martha Penner

Martha Goossen Penner was born to Peter K. and Maria Goossen on June 15, 1925, at Rosenort, Manitoba.  She was her mother’s only daughter, and shared nine half siblings with her three older brothers.  Before dawn on    January 7, 2022, the angels carried her to sunrise in Glory.

In her early years, she answered God’s call and was baptized into His Church.  Her devotion to God remained steadfast.

On February 11, 1951, Martha was united in marriage to George L. Penner.  Their first home was an upstairs room in her widowed mother’s house near Rosenort.  In 1962, they moved their young family of two daughters west to Grandview, becoming the pioneers of a new congregation.  Unselfishly, they continued to support her mother, providing her with a “granny house” next to theirs.

Mom supported Dad in the office of the deaconry, and was a living example of modesty, simplicity, and economy.  She was given to hospitality, and made sure you never left her table hungry, urging you to have seconds, then thirds!  She was not fond of change, using her treadle sewing machine and spinner washer long after more modern conveniences became available.  Her most well-loved songs were the old hymns, particularly ‘Live One Day at a Time’.

Her dear husband of 64 years passed away in 2015, and Mom became a resident at Maplewood Manor.  Crocheting was a favorite pastime, and many people have been recipients of her afghans.  Harvest time was a highlight for Mom; she enjoyed the combine rides even until last harvest.

Cherishing fond memories are her two daughters: Dessie & Dale Froese; and Marion & Leon Isaac, Grandview, MB; nine grandchildren: Ramonda  & Galen Renno; Curtis & Cristy Froese; Kelly & Annette Isaac; Jana & Nathan Toews; Ross & Janelle Isaac; Brent & Charity Isaac; Doug & Miss Isaac; Kristi & Carson Toews; Kami Isaac;  twenty great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives.

Preceding her in death were her husband George, and all her siblings.
