Obituary of Dan T. Warkentin

A livestreamed private family funeral service will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 3:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment at take place at Prairie Rose EMC Cemetery, Landmark, MB.

Dan Warkentin of Landmark, MB passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on Saturday, February 5, 2022.  He was 81 years old.

He is survived by his wife Hilda, 5 children; Diana, Ken (Dianna), Paul (Renée), Bruce (Anna), Ray (Shauna), 17  grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and sister Mary (Elmer) Penner.

He was predeceased by his son Stanley and his brother Alfred.

Dad was born on July 25th, 1940 to Daniel and Aganetha Warkentin. He had an older brother Alfred and a younger sister Mary. They lived near Landmark where the family had a grain farm.

Dad accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior as a young man. This decision came after a time of conviction, struggle, and reading his Gideon Bible that he received in grade 5.

As the story is told, Dad met Mom on a blind double date. They crossed paths earlier while Dad was working in a beet field owned by Mom’s grandparents. They were married on September 29, 1962 after a two year courtship.

Dad and Mom attended the Steinbach Mennonite Church where Dad served as a Deacon.  Given the family’s involvement in the community of Landmark, Dad and Mom began attending Prairie Rose EMC where Dad became involved in ministry, first as a Deacon, and later as an ordained Minister.

In his early years, Dad was a drywall taper. He and Mom had a house in Landmark where Diana, Ken, Paul, and Stanley were born.   Stanley died at 14 months of age after a lengthy illness.

In 1973, Dad fulfilled his dream and bought a farm just south of Landmark. One of his goals was to raise his family on a farm.

For the next almost 50 years, this is where Dad farmed and then retired.  Bruce and Ray were born here in 1973 and 1976.

Dad's relationship with God and his ministry were central to his life. We as a family have memories of going to Union Gospel Mission, Cedarwood Apartments, and other venues where Dad would speak, hold Bible studies, and provide music together with Mom.  He was an evangelist. Dad’s speaking took him out of province and country, where he preached in English, High   German, and Low German.  He also had a burden for his family and his prayer was that our family circle would be unbroken in Heaven.

Dad will be greatly missed by many but we know he is rejoicing and praising God with those who have gone before him and for that we are thankful.

The Family would like to extend a special thank-you to Silver Lining for caring and ministering to Dad in his final months. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks for the many phone calls, prayers, cards, and food.
