Uncle Ron was my dad’s youngest brother and a loving uncle to us kids and brother-in-law to mom. Where you went Uncle Ron...we followed...all the holiday visits in Brantford, North Dakota, The Pas, Steinbach, Alaska, Parry Sound and even meeting up in Whistler...this is the price we pay for all the years of great visits and having a fun uncle, we had the joy and laughter and now we have the tears. Dad (Uncle Eddie) and Uncle Ron have had many a conversations and now I’ll miss, too, hearing all the latest updates of you Uncle Ron and your family. Your passing was sudden and unexpected and I think we are all still reeling from the shock. With hope, Nadia, Nicole, Vanessa and Jennifer (and families), that it helps you to know we care. Yours in family, Theresa (Skokun), Elisabeth, and Mackenzie.

To the Skokun family,
We send our deepest condolences as we think of you today.
The man warmly larger than life will now be sitting at the right hand of God serving up those delicious specialties of his with that mischievous grin and sparkle in his eye. He and Marlene were gracious hosts to those of us fortunate enough to visit them in their home. May you stand proud today and always as you acknowledge Ron's life and the person he was.
Sincerely
Lorna and Alex Sanderson and family.

Our most sincere condolences to Rons family. I have many memories of visiting at Ron and Marlene’s with my sister Cindy. Ron was always very friendly, a very kind man. I was also fortunate to take a medical terminology class with him through UCN. We were very sad to hear of his passing, but know that the visiting table got much more exciting in heaven up on his arrival. May your fond memories carry you through these next few days, weeks and months as you mourn the loss of Ron. Sending hugs.
Lesa, Tony and Ava

Where does one begin in giving tribute to the amazing man, father, grandfather, and friend your father was.
There are not enough adjectives to describe Ron - a man with a heart of gold. You knew him as a father and grandfather we knew him as a great friend. Always remember how proud he was of each of you girls, his eyes twinkling when he spoke of you and his eyes dancing and his face beaming when he spoke of his beautiful grandchildren.
They say friends are the family you get to choose - well we were honoured to be chosen as one of his closest friends. He would often comment on how much he appreciated Les and I, but it was us that knew how lucky and blessed we were to have him in our lives. Our days will not be the same without: our almost daily FaceTime chats, the visits during the week, the incredible meals he prepared for us, our baking and recipe discussions, his relentless teasing and joke telling. Ron had very few faults, but two come to mind that caused some rivalry between households - 1) Toronto Maple Leafs and 2) Hamilton Tiger Cats - we just couldn’t sway him to the “right team”.
Over the years Wednesday became our “Survivor” night. One Wednesday at Ron’s for supper, an hour watching Survivor, followed by desert - the next Wednesday we would host the evening - let me say we were the Survivor winners with the feasts that Ron prepared. Many tricks and jokes were shared between us, one of the funniest followed a beautiful Friday evening around our outdoor fire pit, once Ron left and pulled out of our driveway Les called over to Ron’s apartment knowing that the message machine would pick up. The message left - “ Hey google, turn volume up to high and play Opera music”. We then waited for the phone call which came upon Ron’s arrival home to very loud music.
Ron was always there for us, whether to lend a hand for a bridal/baby shower, birthday, anniversary or other special occasions, but the most important times he shared with us is when he just sat and listened offering advice at times or just acknowledging that an ear was needed.
There are many stories and many many wonderful memories thanks to this man we called our friend.
Ron, may you be as blessed in your next life as we were in this life by knowing you.
Love Theresa & Les Highfield❤️

I was introduced to Ron and Marlene by Les and Theresa Highfield soon after they moved to Steinbach. After Marlene’s passing, Ron did some contract work with me at Workplace Education Manitoba. We became friends and shared many a laugh and a joke (there was never a shortage of jokes when Ron was around, some good some not so good but it didn’t really matter :)
Food and friendship were synonymous with Ron and my husband and I enjoyed many a celebration together with him and our friends. Ron was an excellent cook and knew his way around the kitchen. This past Christmas I asked him to make some cabbage rolls which he did but not without complaining about the cabbage and at me for not giving him enough notice. That was crusty old Ron. He liked people to think he was a curmudgeon, but underneath that facade was a marshmallow. Ron was a big man with a big heart. That heart was on display whenever he talked about his girls and his grandchildren and when he was enjoying time with his friends and bringing his generous offerings to many a table. He gave of himself to his communities (The Pas, Steinbach, and the Church), his students, and his family and friends. I am a better person for having had the privilege of knowing Ron Skokun.
Rest in peace my friend. Kim
