What a lovely memorial service for a very special man. Thank you, Vern, Jennie, and all the rest of you for honoring Uncle Bill so beautifully. Even though I was born in Swift Current, my earliest memories are from Herbert and that of course immediately brings to mind the Redekop and Zapinsky families. I was four when we left Herbert but already a foundation of love, acceptance, kindness and laughter had been instilled in me. Uncle Bill, Aunt Loreen, Hans and Ruth Zapinsky, Wally, Helen, Lois, and of course dear Mrs. Redekop were a huge part of this legacy. Over the years, Uncle Bill and Aunt Loreen were often treasured guests at my parents' house. There was always fun and laughter. And almost inevitably, Uncle Bill would joyfully retell the story of getting my parents to the hospital in time for my delivery. I loved that story; it made me feel special. And I enjoyed all of his storytelling. He was just such a loving, warm and fun man. My memories of him will always be tender and will always bring me back to my earliest happy beginnings in Herbert. Jim and I send our love and deepest condolences to all of the family. Elaine Childs (Quito, Ecuador)

Bill Redekop
I first met Bill when I, with my family, stepped off the train at Herbert station at the end of a week long transatlantic journey from the UK in 1967. Thousands of miles from family, friends and all that was familiar we found ourselves in the little prairie town.
But Bill and Loreen took us under their wing and in our second year in Herbert we became next door neighbours, renting Bill’s mother’s house.
Although our life journey took us away from Canada back to Britain, then New Guinea and eventually to Australia the friendship and love between us and Bill & Loreen remained strong and we were able to make several visits to see each other.
Bill and I both went through the trauma of loosing our beloved spouses to cruel illness and Bill shared my joy when I married Daphne. When Daphne,her 5yr old granddaughter Emily and Daphne’s mum Peggy visited Herbert with me in 2005, Bill & Loreen made them most welcome and Bill worked his special magic entertaining Emily.
Bill lived to share the love of his Lord and Saviour with all those around him. For Bill the purpose of life was not to be happy in oneself but to be helpful to others and to share God’s love with them. Self Happiness is just a byproduct.
We mourn the loss of a dearly loved friend but rejoice in a wonderful life that will ever be remembered for its richness in Christian charity and joy.

My deepest condolences to the family of Bill Redekop. Bill was an amazing man, Christian and neighbor. I met Bill in Herbert when I pastored the Evangelical Free Church in Herbert from 2000 to 2005. Bill and I had some wonderful chats. He is now in the arms of Jesus.

Dear Prof. Redekop and family members,
We are heartbroken to hear about the loss of your father Bill. He was a wonderful person and will be missed. I first met him at the lecture at St. Paul in the spring of 2015, and he promised to send me some funds which I used for Caux Scholars Program training.
We are now you are remarkably busy right now but wanted you to know I’m thinking of you. We are deeply sorry for your loss.
May the Lord keep you safe under His wing as you begin to navigate this new existence. Our prayers are with you and your family. The Lakus family
The LORD the Shepherd of His People
A Psalm of David.
23 The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not [a]want.
2 He makes me to lie down in [b]green pastures;
He leads me beside the [c]still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will [d]dwell in the house of the LORD

I first met Mr. Redekop when I was a seven year old. As part of the Herbert Male Quartet , my father and he became good friends. They were also part of the beginning of the Gideons in Herbert. My memories of this time consisted of lying in bed at night and listening to the men practising in our living room. I grew up loving male quartet music because of this.
About 15 years ago, I wanted to donate some of Dad's Herbert Glee Club music to the Herbert Museum. I was told that someone from the museum would call me. That someone was Bill Redekop. When he realized I was George's daughter, he became emotional-- we spoke for over an hour! He told me to call him Bill (which was difficult for me to do ) . We telephoned often during these past years and had wonderful conversations. These calls I will miss very much. He would always end the call with an "God loves you and so do I" . It was easy to say this back to him.
We were able to have a wonderful day with him in Steinbach a few years ago...my sister has mentioned this in her tribute. He did not want us to leave and kept prolonging the day. It was an emotional farewell and little did we know it would the the last face to face visit we would have because of distance and covid!
I would like to think that after the reunion with the Lover of his Soul and his loved ones gone before, he is back singing with the old Herbert quartet.
Saying farewell on this side of heaven is sad for us but those on Heaven's side have clapped and become excited as Bill was welcomed to his Eternal Home.
Bill is no longer in "the roofing business" as he used to say. Bill lived with the pain of shingles valiantly!
Our prayers are with you, his family , for comfort and peace and joy again. Heaven has just become closer !
Blessings, Gary and Shirley (Wedel) Holden

I met Bill at the Annual Gideons Member meeting and then was able to meet with him in Steinbach over the last five years. Even though I met Bill later in his life, I would describe him as a firecracker. Always telling stories and not ashamed to tell people about his Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was a man of faith and his statement to his Gideon colleagues was to purchase a ticket to the following year Annual Conference before the left the current one. Thank you Bill for your integrity, smile, faith and good will. Heaven is your new home. Greg Olson

I met Bill for the first time 7 years ago with my sister (who had contacted him at the time of the Herbert reunion). Our father (George Wedel) had been in a quartet with Bill when we were young kids. I was delighted to visit him in Steinbach with my sister for what turned out to be a full day of joy! His passing is not a time of sadness but one of a great celebration of a life lived very well to its absolute fullest. The legacy he leaves behind is remarkable. Bill shared memories, great wisdom, passion and a love for life that I have not seen before. What was supposed to be a visit over lunch turned out to be a day long event and I fear we wore him out. Bill accomplished more in his life than any person I know. He was inspiring. They say to be the things you most loved about the people who are gone. By sharing his life experiences, Bill's legacy and what he inspires in others is integrity, humility, being mindful and a great listener. He was a great story teller, weaving life lessons throughout his words. He was true to himself and his beliefs and leaves the world a far better place. I hope he is harmonizing with my dad and the angels. My condolences to his family and many blessings. I am grateful to have met Bill.

Bill Redekop to me, was one of Herbert's finest. I remember him well during the times he sold John Deere tractors and combines to my dad. I remember when Bill bought his first automatic transmission car. He came out to the field where we were working and he made me drive that beautiful car. As a 16 year old I was impressed . Later in life I had great respect for him as a Christian politician and invited him to be part of the Mayor's Prayer Breakfadt in Swift Current. He did Christianity proud

We join you in grieving the loss of your dad, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill always cared deeply for others, freely shared his faith in Jesus, and gave big hugs! Bill was never at a loss for words and was a wonderful encourager! We rejoice knowing he has entered his eternal home. We love you Bill!

My husband and I can attest to Mr. Redekop's keen enjoyment of music, and his enthusiastic expressions of appreciation to the Mitchell Senior Choir, which Gerald directed a few years. We always enjoyed chatting with "Mr. John Deere" at Bridgepark Manor when we met. He was pleased to find out we have some awareness of Herbert, and know some of his Kroeker kin. Best of all, it was refreshing to share our love for Jesus. May you, his family, find comfort in God's care.

I met Mr. Redekop when he moved to Stone Bridge. My mother in law Agatha Hiebert lived across the hall from him on the third floor. She introduced me to him and turned out that he was long time friends with my great uncles John Neufeld and Albert Falk from Herbert,Sask. He had many interesting stories to tell me. He was always friendly and such a kind wonderful man.
