Obituary of Amanda Mitchell

Amanda Katherine Mitchell, 42, of Richer, Manitoba, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Amanda was born on March 10, 1980, in Winnipeg and at 10 days old was adopted into the family of Albert and Kathy Mitchell and joined sister Pamela to complete their family.

She grew up in the St. Vital area of Winnipeg and attended Winnipeg Mennonite Elementary School, St. George School, and Glenlawn Collegiate. In junior high, Amanda was passionate about, and excelled, at school sports, especially volleyball and basketball. Amanda adored animals and as a teenager somehow managed to convince her parents (who were adamantly against owning a pet) to take in not just one but two cats. She was convinced Benny and Jo-Jo would be a perfect addition to the family and she was right. Amanda continued to surround herself with a variety of pets throughout her life and cared for many litters of kittens and puppies over the years. Amanda was especially fond of her dogs Marshall and Sam.

Amanda loved to be outside enjoying her 3-acre property, camping, walking her dogs, and swimming in "the pits" in the summer. She found beauty in art and she designed an intricate tattoo that included her favourite flowers: (roses and lilies), butterflies, and the image of a beautiful girl who appeared strong and courageous, Amanda chose her tattoo to represent all the challenges and tough times that she had but then the good that has came from it. Amanda endured many hardships in her life but still found moments that brought her joy.

Amanda's first job was at the Richer Inn. She made amazing friends there and felt the place was "always rocking". She started working at Provista Agriculture in 2003. She was proud of her work ethic and despite her small stature, was able to keep up with the physical demands of the job. Throughout her entire working life Amanda was never afraid to tackle any job too big or too small.

On top of being a hard worker, Amanda was also an amazing mother. In 1997, Amanda became a mom to her daughter Brittney and affectionately referred to her as her mini-me because they looked so similar. In 1999, her son Shayne was born and Amanda loved having a golf, fishing, and paint ball partner. She worked very hard to provide for her kids and loved them very much. Much like her passion as a teenager, Amanda always encouraged both of her kids to be involved in many extracurricular activities. When it came to the kids, Amanda was always the first one to be in the front row of many sporting events, Christmas concerts, and whatever else she could convince the kids to sign up for. One year she even coached Shayne’s soccer team!

Amanda leaves behind her daughter Brittney and son Shayne to cherish her memory. She is survived by her father Albert Mitchell, sister Pamela Doerksen (Conrad), nieces Kiandra and Kezia, and nephew Kaden, as well as many friends and family.

Amanda was predeceased by her Mom, Katherine Mitchell, in 2017.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held to remember Amanda's life.
