My sympathies! Your mom and my mom, Anne, shared the same easy laugh, twinkle in their eyes, and were always up for some fun. My mom always enjoyed it when someone would greet her as Irene. Your mom was terrific!

I so treasure the memories with cousin Irene from the last time she came to visit in Alberta. I drove and we had great talks on our drive to Banff. I loved her sense of humor. I started to pray again and ask God for a safe trip. She said ....didn't we do that already?
I've often thought of that and it has been a good reminder to me that I don't need to keep asking God over and over but to instead trust him and believe.
Love and hugs to you all,
Patricia Spenst (Klassen)

I was visiting with my Mom, Anne Klassen today, and told her about Irene’s passing. She was very sad, but we fondly reminisced about their relationship. Mom would call Irene, and Irene would always say…”oh! Aunt ‘n Annie (that’s what she always called my Mom) hang up! I’ll call you so we can have a long chat”. Mom so enjoyed those chats with her niece! She held a very special spot in my Mom’s heart! My memories of my cousin go way back to when I was a child. Most of my cousins were older than me, but even with the age difference Irene would take the time to joke with me. I loved her sense of humour and her laugh! Here are a couple of Mom’s photos of Irene at Mom’s 90th birthday.

A genuine lady with a most excellent sense of humor and always a big smile. I loved her candy popcorn. Each Christmas no matter where I lived or how old I got an ice cream pail of candy popcorn was delivered from Irene. May your treasured memories of your mother, grandmother and great grandmother lighten the sorrow of your loss.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Irene was generous with her chicken noodle soup, her white cookies and of course the ‘pilly she gave Carly. She would mysteriously drop off food with the most perfect timing. One special woman. She is missed.

This is the beautiful lady I will remember and cherish forever...her strong, loving presence graced all and touched so many of us in special unique ways. Auntie Irene was an integral part of the H.B. Rempel family, selflessly and passionately planning and organizing annual family reunions, along with Uncle Wally....and to the newcomers, "the outlaws" of the family, you were always made to feel welcome and included by her, through her quick wit and sense of humor. She sure knew how to "break the ice" and make you feel a sense of belonging. On my last visit with her...she not really remembering who I was, still welcomed me with open arms and a big hug....Rest in Peace Auntie Irene....but only for a little bit....you will need your energy for reuniting with all your loved ones whom have gone before you....love you Auntie Irene

Irene was always so in tune with what someone needed. When my own Mom was aging and widowed, there was Irene picking her up in her car, taking her here and there, bringing her something she had mentioned she needed, although never expecting to have it. Many a time Mom found a little package on her main floor balcony when she lived in an apartment. Irene had been up late at night sewing or baking or whatever, and had brought Mom some item she had mentioned she needed. What a gem she was! When she discovered my favourite flower was the sunflower, she gave me a set of sunflower mugs, a sunflower girl bag-holder and, just a few years ago, a beautiful piece of fabric with sunflowers on it. “Tell me what you want made out of it” she said. I asked her just to hem it to make a tablecloth and she did. I will cherish it! I will miss you! Say hi to my Mom and Dad and sister, ok?

I am sad, beyond words!
LOVE to all of you kids and grandkids! ...... There are so many pieces of my life, where your Mom was an amazing and supportive part of my good, bad and the ugly. Even breaking the 'old town' norm - to love me, and come support and celebrate my wedding in BC.
She and your Dad (with other wild friends) were so engaged in everything fun in life (especially Halloween ..LOL). Something all of us should remember, as important in keeping our sanity in a crazy world!
She held our Church together, with her passion, faith and organization ... for all the years that she 'ran' the Office.
She trusted me with you kids == maybe wise decision? Maybe not?? ...
She was the most honest, candid, supportive and loving friend that anyone could have ever asked for.
LOVE her .... forever!
XO.

It would be hard to find someone to disagree with me when I say there will never be anyone like my grandma. By far the most selfless, giving, loving, funniest person I know. She will be/has been missed by so many people. So many memories with her and grandpa that I/we will never forget. Forever in our hearts. We love you grandma!

The world definitely was a better with this lady in it. Aunt Irene was such a special person to so many. When my mother, Susan McLaughlin, was in her final few months and not much made a difference in her life or made her happy; a visit from her sister-in-law, Irene could make her smile big, make her communicate, and so obviously make her day. This is just one of the things that makes me thankful for Aunt Irene. So many other things too: Her welcoming nature, her care and concern and asking about everyone - by name, her organizational skills and the efforts she put into getting family to gather, her yearly news letters that let us all know all the important happenings with she and Uncle Wally as well as the rest of her people, HER SENSE OF HUMOR!!, and mostly the way she displayed her love for Uncle Wally (so sincerely and with so much fun and humor) and the way she (along with Uncle Wally) managed to raise such a GREAT family that she and her best traits will live on in. Love and heartfelt condolences to all who loved her.
