Obituary of Katharine Neufeld

Katharine Neufeld, born March 4, 1933, aged 89 years, of Benito, MB passed away peacefully at the Benito Health Centre on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Where she lived since July 7, 2021.

She is survived by her children: Walter (Nancy), Rod (Tammy), Gerald (Meike), Bob, Val (Vern), Joyce (Tim), Jeff (Carol), Charity (Bill), Carolyn, Richard, Sharon (Lance), and Sheldon. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Bernhard Neufeld, her parents Peter and Susanna (Klippenstein) Dueck, two sons (Marvin, Vern) and two daughters-in-law (Vivian, Carol), four brothers and two sisters.

Mom worked hard all her life raising 12 children and working outside of the home. Being the eldest daughter of eight siblings she was no stranger to the “Get It Done” mind set.

She started her work life at the St. Pierre sewing factory (six years), and while working here she met her loving husband at the Grunthal Fair. Then she moved to the Steinbach sewing factory. She then married Bernhard Neufeld, of Austin, MB, on July 13, 1952 and they moved to Randolph, MB to start their family. During their marriage they moved many times but finally settled in New Bothwell (the old Arron School). She stayed home to raise most of her children and returned to work at Friendly Family Farms.

To mom’s great sadness dad passed away on August 9, 2017, leaving mom heartbroken. She then moved into Benito with Bill and Charity for the next four years until moving into the Benito Health Centre in 2021.

Mom loved bingo no matter where or with whom. She also loved a game we called “marbles” which she played with dad for hours in a day and this continued right up to her passing. She loved to win.

The family would like to express sincere heartfelt gratitude to mom’s private hired staff that assisted her daily while Charity worked for the first four years. They could always make her smile and actually go for a walk. To the staff at the Benito Health Centre who always went beyond to try to assist her and the support they provided to the family, especially during the Covid outbreak. We would also like to thank the many physicians and nurses that have worked with mom over the last five years to maintain her health as long as possible.
