Sorry to hear of the loss of Roger. At the beginning of my career in 1999 I was fortunate enough to work with Roger at the Government of Manitoba. Roger was a blast to work with and had an amazing sense of humour. When I first met him he was having a blast playing with the office video camera and had decided to make an instructional video on how to correctly use the coffee maker. Then he setup a video sting operation on the 9th floor with the camera filming down in the parking lot where he had placed a broken stereo on the fence. (It lasted 20 minutes) we got to see in hi8 detail the guy on the bike circle by 3 times before snatching the prize.
He was lots of fun to work with and I still use one of his tricks he taught me to this day. When we had a problem instead of coming up with the solution from scratch he would first think “Who may have had to solve this problem already? Then let’s ask them how they fixed it.”
Sorry to hear of his passing

Dad, I just read through all the heartfelt and thoughtful messages that were left for you on the blog from when you were still with us. The theme in almost every message was friends and family talking about how you helped them. You were always ready to lend a hand and offer advice, generous with your time and funds where needed and never seeking recognition.
I’m so thankful you were able to hear those messages before you left us and I hope you are at peace now. It’s still not real to me that you aren’t here anymore which I guess is why I’m posting this to you with the hopes you might be able to read it…
Should anyone pop by this obituary and read this, please consider sharing with those you love how they have impacted your life before they are gone. I’m eternally thankful to those who did that for my dad during his darkest days, you all brought love and light to my dad and our family.
Thank you to those who posted messages here on the obituary as well, we weren’t able to reach everyone when he was still here for the blog messages but it’s comforting to read how you knew and remember him.

My condolences to Kath and family. Roger was a good friend and we connected in ways that I do not connect with other friends. I looked up to Roger and I am thankful for time we spent together discussing various issues, particularly technology and saving money. I am so grateful that our paths crossed and I will miss him.

My deepest condolences. We went to Holy Cross School together in the 50s and 60s. His dad was the projectionist at the Rialto Theatre on Portage Ave. For my birthday in April 1963 ? we went to the theatre and into the projection room to see the work being done - changing reels and cuing the film up etc. The movies were La Parisienne with Brigette Bardot and Dr. No. with Sean Connery. Then it was to the all you can eat mid-town buffet for dinner. The there was the time in the evening with road work being done on Caton St. we started up the road grader.. A great friend and I am happy we re-connected a few years ago. He will be missed.

Kathy, Andrea, David and family -we are so sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. Roger was always ready with a smile whenever we saw him, followed with a hug. We first met your family at neighbourhood parties when the young families on Hawkins & Dells Crescent got together. Those truly were the good old days. That was back when David was a baby. Through the years, we’ve reconnected at different times and it has always been so enjoyable. Kathy, I know that your heart must be broken, Roger was your best friend. Andrea and David, your Dad was always so proud of the lives you were living. I’m sure that the greatest joy for Roger was his Grandchildren. Roger was knowledgeable about everything, helpful to everyone, quirky occasionally and always had a twinkle in his eyes when he saw us. Rocky and I are so sorry for your loss and hold you in our prayers. Sending hugs to you all-Rocky & Margaret Richardson

Sorry for you loss, he was quite the guy. He always was open and gracious when he was asked to help or loan a ladder or whatever. Tackling projects summed up his attitude. Thank you Roger.

Kathy, Andrea, Ian, David, Anne, Emily and Noah I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss.
Roger was a super great guy all around. I absolutely loved how he used to help Grandma Burnell out after Grandpa had passed. I loved that thru Covid he got Aunt Lorraine a lap top and put her on Facebook. Although she gave up on it, the thought of Roger doing this for her will never be forgotten.
I loved how he treated your Mom Kathy. The love they had for each other never went unnoticed. I loved listening to them tease each other.
Lastly, the love he had for you Kathy and for the rest of your family never went unnoticed by me either. I loved the conversations with Roger because he seemed to know his “stuff” when he spoke. He will be missed by many.
Sending love, hugs and prayers to all of you.
