I am deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Bryan. I took care of Bryan at the Health Sciences Day Care Nursery when he was there in the 4-&5-year-old room. Sometimes when you work in a daycare centre a child will have a special attachment to you. Bryan and I had a mutual attachment and enjoyed each other’s company. I know that with certainty. After all, he literally gave me the shirt off his sister’s back! I had (and still have) a camel collection. Sometimes I would take some of my camels to visit the children at the daycare centre. Brian knew my love for camels was deep. When his sister Larissa showed up at daycare wearing her toddler-sized “I’m Dry” camel T-shirt and Bryan heard me comment about it, he convinced Judy that I needed to have this shirt to add to my camel collection. I remember the day the Plante family donated it to my collection so that my stuffed camel, named “Klinger”, would have something to wear.
I also have a bittersweet memory of greeting Bryan as he returned to daycare after his first morning of French Immersion kindergarten. I checked in with him to see how his morning went. When I asked about his new teacher, who of course only spoke French to the children in the immersion program, Bryan’s response to me was that she “didn’t know what she was talking about”. I wanted to laugh because it was a sweet explanation communicating what he was feeling, but part of me wanted to cry because I recognized how lost he must have felt all morning not knowing what the teacher was saying to him.
After I left the daycare centre, I eventually began teaching in the Early Childhood Education Department at ‘Red River Community College’. Every year, when I taught Preschool Child Development, I would tell my students about a young boy who told me about having lightning in his blankets. That was Bryan. How he described his experience was a perfect example of a preschool child’s way of thinking. He was explaining the world around him without yet having the needed word in his vocabulary. Since then I have always and will always remember Bryan when I see ‘static’…
Judy, I hope you are feeling the hug that I’m sending you. My heartfelt sympathy to all of Bryan’s loved ones.

I have been blessed to know Bryan's life over 40 years through his mom, JJ (Plante) Riedel. I first met Judy/Bryan when she would drop him off at the Tecumseh(HSC) daycare. JJ and I became close friends and coworkers over many years. The friendship with Judy and Archie(Riedel) became one of the most meaningful to me. Judy has shared many stories about Bryan that showed his big heart.... his togetherness with Vanessa (shopping, camping, gardening, canning), the pride in his children, delivering groceries to Grandma Rose, his ritual when visiting Archie's grave site, his feedback on Judy's interior design choices, his cats and his affinity for better lighting. This past Tuesday, Judy received a ceiling fan with a better light - Bryan had recommended this to her last Wednesday.....
Parents are not meant to live through the death of a child. My heart breaks for Judy, Grandma Rose, Bryan and Larissa's families and all other affected by this huge loss.

Well said, Giselle! I didn’t really know him well, but certainly knew him through his Mom, Judy. He was always so helpful to his family, especially Grandma Rose and his Mom. My heart goes out to all his family. It makes me smile to think of him & Archie having a good German beer up there! Hugs - Anne Lenius

I met Bryan on my first day of grade 9. I believe we shared home room. I was very nervous because I was in a classroom with almost as many kids as my entire grade school had.
He absolutely made me feel welcome and accepted. Plus his sense of humour could make you forget any stress. From there we went in so many adventures through out high school and young adulthood. Many of which are my fondest memories. After a great loss in my life at 17 I can say Bryan was the one person who stuck by my side. He fully accepted me for who I was, never criticized the mistakes I made, and was always there for me. He became my one true friend for life.
As adult life rolled on we saw each other less. It was amazing how it never seemed like any time had passed when we did talk. He was always the same great man and our friendship remained strong.
From hellish rides down back roads in a 79’ Toyota to endless cups of coffee over cribbage, he will always be my most loved friend.

We grew up with Brian, he lived just a few doors down from us. Fond memories of biking to their house to play with him and Larissa or riding with them on the bus to and from school as we are all the same age. Our sincere condolences to all of his family ❤️

I went to high school with Bryan. I can't believe this. I remember that he was always so full of life and energy. Reading the obituary had me nodding my head in agreeance about his quit wit and sense of humor. My heart breaks for his wife and kids, family and close friends. Sadly, we drifted apart after high school and I never met his wife or kids, but you have my deepest sympathy on your sudden loss. I won't be able to attend the Celebration of Life, but Bryan and all his loved ones will be in my thoughts.
Sincerely,
Mike Turenne
