Obituary of Otto Crayton Weese

Otto Crayton Weese, age 96, of Steinbach, Manitoba, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, and Niverville Heritage Center, in Niverville, Manitoba.

Crayton was born to the late Allen Thurman Weese and Alice Ethel Gramm Weese on Dec 3, 1925 in Jackson County, Ohio. At the age of 18 Crayton enlisted in the US Navy. He served in World War II and the Korean War as a Hospital Corpsman and Pharmacist’s Mate. After being honorably discharged, he served in the Navy Reserves for another four years.

Crayton met Violet Friesen at a church function in Dayton, Ohio and they were married September 8, 1962. They were blessed with one daughter and one son.

After he married, he resided in Dayton, Ohio, for a few years, before moving to Warner Robins, Ga with his wife and two children. There he worked on an Air Force base as a civilian accountant until his retirement. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, coaching his son’s rec league baseball and basketball teams, and camping trips with his son’s Boy Scout troop. After his retirement he and Violet moved to Steinbach, Manitoba and enjoyed traveling all over the United States.

Crayton was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Violet Friesen Weese, and a sister, Rosalene.

He is survived by: daughter Cynthia Lynae (Bill) McKenzie, of Johns Creek, GA, and a son, Christopher Allen (Marcia) Weese, of Lilburn, GA, and two grandchildren: Eric Christopher Weese, and Carter Allen Weese.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB with a viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee: Ukraine Emergency Response, or the American Heart Association.
