Obituary of Mary Reimer

Viewing will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with interment to follow at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB. 

Mary Reimer (nee Goertzen) passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on January 8, 2023.

She is survived by her beloved husband Peter of 62 years, and their son Gary (Cheryl), daughters, Shirley (Albert), Lorie (Darryl), Gail (Bob), son-in-law Max, and daughter-in-law Cheryl. 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her Sister Helen, brother George, Sisters-in-law, Agatha and Lena.

Mary was predeceased by her son Harold and daughter Elaine.

Mom was born on May 16^th, 1940, to John K & Suzanna Goertzen. She was one of 12 Siblings.

Mom and dad were married on March 8, 1960, and started their married life farming in the Grunthal area. They farmed for 35 years, all while raising six children.

During the farming years, mom also worked part time as a Homecare aide for one year as well as was the Hanover Shuttle service for a few months.

Mom loved her many trips to Grand Forks with her partners in Crime, Sara, Agatha and Audrey.

Mom and dad took many trips across Canada from Coast to Coast, and also their trip to Pennsylvania and Alaska. Mom had an adventurous spirit which took her to Europe for four weeks with her daughter Lorie and Sister, Helen in 1986. She went back to Germany for a second time with her sister-in-law, Wally.

Mom loved flowers, whether it was planting them or Bouquets. She loved sewing, baking, and the past year, loved Ice Cream.

Mom always had a great sense of humor and loved her family. She always took the time during the summer to camp in the motor home with her grandkids. Her three granddaughters will always remember spending the night Christmas day and this was a tradition well into their early twenties.

Even until the very end, mom was always concerned about dad and loved him dearly.

Mom is leaving a big hole in our lives and will be sadly missed.
