Obituary of Lily Schellenberg

Lily Schellenberg was born January 8, 1920 in Steinbach, Manitoba. She was the second youngest of eight children born to Peter C. and Caroline (Eck) Toews. She grew up in Steinbach, and married John K. Schellenberg, on November 20, 1943. Most of the next seventeen years were spent on a farm in the Tourond area, raising the family of three sons, Cal, Jack, George and one daughter Mary Jane. The last child, Peter, was born after the family moved to Steinbach in 1960. She was baptized in 1958 when she and her husband joined the EMB Church in Steinbach (now Cornerstone Bible Church). Lily loved cooking and baking, and was known for her skills in this area. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. Her family was well cared for. She had a natural ability to cook, often without recipes. Not being able to spend time in the kitchen was a real hardship for her in her latter years. Lily suffered from ill health for many years and was finally released from this life on April 5, 2007. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her children, Cal and Martha Schellenberg and son Jason and his wife Karoline; Jack and Irene Schellenberg and children, Lisa, Carrie and husband Scott Wilson and grandson Isaak, John and his wife Tara, Annalee and her husband Chris Goertzen; George Schellenberg; Mary Jane and Steve Harder and children Bonnie and fiancé Rus Reimer, Rhonda and Curtis; and Peter and Marcie Schellenberg and children Jessica and Adam; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Toews, as well as other extended family and friends. Mom was predeceased by her parents, by her husband, John, by twin grandsons, Patrick and Dale in infancy, and by all her siblings, Eva, Erwin, Ben, Agnes, Dan, George and Adina. A viewing was held at Woodhaven Manor on Monday morning April 9, and prior to the funeral service, which was held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach with Pastor Ron Adrian officiating. Internment took place at the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to Haven Group Foundation 177 Woodhaven Ave., Steinbach, MB R5G 1K7
