My sincere condolences to the Henry Kasdorf family during this time of grief and tragedy. May God flood your heart with peace and comfort as we give him praise.
My name is Dennis Friesen. Class of 1990 SSRS, number 15, right side power, on the senior boys volleyball team. I left Steinbach after graduation and pursued my own path in Southern Alberta. I never looked back, lost contact with friends, teammates and school mates. I never attended a class reunion.
But, I would like to stop now and reflect on Henry, as I never forgot him. I never knew Henry as an adult. But 33 years later, I remember........
At school, you could always hear Henry before you would see him! His laugh was his signature and was sincere. He was always surrounded by a group of friends, Henry was friends with all teachers, Henry seemingly did not own pants as he was always in gym shorts! I'm confident Henry had a volleyball or basketball surgically attached to his hand as he walked around most of the day with a ball!
Henry loved coach/ teacher Peter Dick and he emulated him. Henry would speak like Peter, joke like Peter. Fairly confident Henry walked like Peter! It was obvious in high school that Henry would pursue coaching and teaching, and be good at it. Henry was the best volleyball player I have ever played with. He was intense, he would own his space on the court. He would dive left or right with no hesitation. I can still remember how he moved on the court, he would pull up on his shorts whenever he was on a serve receive position as his thighs were likely too muscled up for a high school kid! His hands and feet were too big for his body! He loved the challenge of competition and he was not shy to tell you if your were out of position. He would make allot of noise when going for a kill and he did not lack communication skills on or off the court!
Henry would participate in all aspects of school spirit, he would always be in the center of the action, whatever it was. I think I may have even seen Henry in the talent show with Steve Pasiciel!
There is a sound a volleyball can make when smashed. Henry brought a new meaning to the word, smash! I still feel sorry for any opposing player attempting to stop that kill with their face. I still hear that distinct sound, that echo in the gym. A sound only Henry could produce with that ball.
Now my son plays volleyball, he's number 7, he's a better player than I was in high school, he plays left side power. When he goes up hit that ball, I always hope that it comes close to a smash like Henry. Emulate Henry. Be intense like Henry, move like Henry, compete like Henry, play like Henry. Thank you Henry.

I first connected with Henry in 2007 at the start of his teaching career at the SRSS. Our son Stefan, was on the JV volleyball team that fall so Henry and I connected immediately. We were both passionate about coaching volleyball so eventually I was fortunate to join Henry as an assistant coach in the following years.
I was able to experience his passion for competition and his concern for the development and well-being of his students and players. I also saw him schedule his practice times in order to be able to spend more time with Tanya, Jace, and Bauer during many very busy volleyball seasons.
I will cherish the many conversations we had about family, sport, travels, finance, renovations, faith, and his journey through cancer diagnosis in recent years. We celebrate a good friend we will miss immensely.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends. I had the privilege of being Henry's friend as a kid, playing hockey, and through school. Henry was a very gifted athlete and it showed in every sport he played. He was one of those guys that was just good at every sport he played. Many years have past since that time, but I fondly remember Henry has a great guy and always smiling! He will be dearly missed but at peace with Jesus.

Very sorry to hear this news by surprise this morning. I haven't seen Henry in 35 years or more, but just the mention of his name and the smile on his young face appeared in my mind like we were both sitting on the bench at the rink all those years ago. It's been a long time, but reading some of postings here, I can see that Henry spent all that time very well indeed.
He has left a legacy of mentorship in learning and sport, and is sure to be missed dearly.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Condolences to Tanya, Bauer and Jace. I knew Henry when he was in grade 12 and he played on the varsity volleyball team which I was coaching. Although he was a hard-working, highly skilled athlete, he was an even better person. He was kind-hearted, in love with life, and a wonderful person to be around. I hope that you hear many new stories about Henry that add to the storehouse of wonderful experiences you shared with him.
