Dad was born on November 7, 1939, in the R.M of Hanover on the “Plata hoff”. He was the fourth oldest of twelve. When Dad was six or seven they made the move to the family farm, two and a half miles east of Blumenort, where he grew up. He went to school till grade six then decided that farming was more important. Then he took a brief break from farming to work in the bush, clearing for highway number one and also to do local trucking jobs.

September 16, 1961, Dad married his sweetheart Betty. They lived on the Plett farm where dad grew up for the first few years of marriage, adding two little boys to the family, Wendell and Lenton.

Then they purchased the family farm one mile north of Blumenort in October of 1967 and added three more children, Trenis, Charisa and Kristin.

Dad worked hard all his life making a home for all of us. He was one of the first registered Holstein farms in this area and had an achievement of over 50 years of farming.

Mom & Dad rarely went on holidays, but they loved to go out for breakfast followed by a drive to go see where the grandsons were working, or check on the fields.

Dad had a strong faith and that was evident in his last days as he prayed often, expressing his appreciation for his children and grandchildren. We also heard him singing various songs including, “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be”.

Dad was the strong silent type, but when he did talk we all listened very carefully, because it was always important.

Didn’t matter where you met him, at a restaurant in Steinbach, at the hockey rink, or at church, you were usually greeted by a firm handshake, a squeeze on the arm and a big smile. This will be missed by many!

We as a family would like to thank everyone for all the support, love and prayers.
