Obituary of Mary Wiebe

Mom was born on July 30, 1911 in the Barkfield area. She died peacefully on Wednesday April 4, 2007 surrounded by members of the family, at the Boundary Trails Hospital, as a result of complications following a badly broken hip. Mom married our father, Diedrich who predeceased her in 1974, on Nov. 8, 1931 in the Sommerfeld Church in Grunthal. They lived in the Barkfield/Pansy area most of their married life, with only a two year stint in BC during the forties. Together they had 11 children, of which one daughter, Helen, died in infancy. Two daughters, Mary in 1983 and Tina in 1984 also predeceased her, both dying after a brave battle with cancer. She was also predeceased by three sons-in-law, George Eidse, Henry Krahn, Cornie Teichroeb and one daughter-in-law, Helena Wiebe. There were two things very precious to Mom: love and prayer. About love she’d always insist that nothing is worth an argument and that love can cover anything. Regarding prayer, she said often that we must never stop praying until we know for sure that all our children and grandchildren are going to Heaven too. Now – we as a family can think of her as rejoicing in Heaven. And instead of her watching at the door, waiting for us to come visit her, she will be watching at Heaven’s door, eagerly waiting and ready to welcome us when we get there too. She is survived by us, her five daughters: Dora (Julius Schellenberg), Elma Eidse, Susie (Peter Falk), Annie (Milton Wiebe) and Betty Krahn; three sons: Herman, Jim (Helen) and Henry (Kathy) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many friends and relatives. Special thanks to Birchwood Funeral Chapel, and for all the people who prayed for us. The family The funeral service will be held at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church, on Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Grunthal Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to Menno Home Foundation, Box 280; Grunthal, MB R0A 0R0
