Obituary of Fred Wiebe

Fred Isaac Wiebe was born on November 6, 1921 in Kleefeld, Manitoba, to Jacob B. and Margaret (Isaac) Wiebe. He passed away on the morning of April 14, 2007 at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, in his 86th year. While some of his friends went to C. O. camps during WWII, Dad was permitted to stay home and help on the family farm just north of Kleefeld. In 1940, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on April 28th that same year. He was joined in marriage to Margaret Penner on May 25th, 1947. To this union were born eight children: Howard, Kathleen, John, Rita, Frederick, Burton, Murray and Laura. Our father was predeceased by infant son Burton in 1961, his loving wife of 44 years in 1991 and his son John in 2001. Left to mourn his passing are his children and their spouses: Howard (Penny), their five children and five grandchildren; Kathleen (Neal Thiessen), their four children; John’s wife Grace, their three children and four grandchildren; Rita; Frederick (Adella), their six children; Murray (Karen), their three children; Laura (Dean Wallace) and their three children. Our father provided for the family by working at different occupations. At first, he worked at the cheese factory in Kleefeld. In 1950, he moved his family to Sinclair, MB, where he soon bought forty acres of land and did a little bit of farming. He supported his family by working as a farm hand and carpenter’s helper. In 1956, he started driving school bus which he continued to do for 22 years. He did some custom rock picking during those years as well. In the mid 70’s, he and Mom bought the store and post office in Sinclair, which was operated with the family’s help until 1986. During this time Dad’s greatest pleasure was meeting people and making friends while working in the store, which he continued to do even after he retired. Dad spent his last five years at Maplewood Manor. He lived comfortably in the care of the staff who became his personal friends. The family wishes to convey special appreciation to those who made his sunset years pleasant and comfortable. Dad spoke highly of those who cared for him. He was generally a grateful and appreciative person. A viewing and brief service will be held at Maplewood Manor, Tuesday, April 17, at 1:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Church of God in Christ, Sinclair, MB, Wednesday, April 18, at 2:30 PM, with interment at the Church Cemetery.
