Obituary of Waldo Fuchs

Following a courageous battle with cancer, with beloved family members by his side, Waldo passed away peacefully on June 28, 2013 at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Waldo will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marjorie and her six children Marielle (Denis) Gauthier, Mariette (Greg Peters) Lambert, Beatrice Dueck, Adeline (Dan Potvin) Lambert, Collette (Ed) Unrau and Victor (Christina) Lambert, 16 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his sisters Minnie Chomokovski, Viola Friesen, Marianne Begalke, and Helen (Jake) Woelke. Waldo was predeceased by his parents Annie and Emil Fuchs, brothers Abe, Leonard, Carl, and three brothers in infancy. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law Steve Chomokovski, Dick Friesen, Walter Begalke and son-in- law David Dueck. Waldo was born in Morris, the youngest in a family of eight children but later moved to the Grunthal area with his family. He often told animated stories of life on the farm with his siblings. In 1970, he met Marge, the love of his life and soon became stepfather to her six children. He helped Marge raise the children to become responsible adults. He was proud of each of them. For most of his life, Waldo worked hard as a heavy equipment and grader operator. This work often took him away from home for long periods of time. He took much pride in a job well-done and worked on major projects all over Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. He continued to work right up until last summer, when ill health forced him to retire. Marge and Waldo made their home in Marchand, and recently, loved nothing more than visits from family and especially from their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to express thanks to Dr. DeMoissac and the nursing and care staff at Ste. Anne Hospital, who made Waldo’s last days comfortable and relatively pain free. He was surely comforted by the many family and friends who visited him in his last few weeks of life. In keeping with Waldo’s wishes, there will be no public funeral service. A private family service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, preceded by the interment of cremated remains at Grunthal Cemetery.
