Obituary of Caroline Giesbrecht

We, the children of Caroline Wiebe Giesbrecht would like to record Mom's passing from this life to the next, her spirit leaving us at 2:10 am on July 7th, 2013 at the Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, Manitoba. We believe she was longing to leave her house of clay behind and go to her eternal reward. She reached the age of 101 years. Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother was born on April 2, 1912 at home in Greenland, Manitoba to Jacob and Anna Wiebe. Mother accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized April 3, 1927. She was born a twin with a close sister, Agnes, who she grew up together with, living in the same community, and with whom she spent her last years together with at Maplewood Manor. They had a touching farewell just hours before mom's passing. Mom had a deep appreciation for her Church, and was concerned for the salvation of those who came after her. Mother met her life's companion, Frank P Giesbrecht in her home community of Greenland and they were married Sept 30th, 1934. Mom and Dad made their livelihood farming in the Greenland area. They enjoyed 43 years together until Dad was suddenly called home Oct 6th, 1977. She has now waited 35 years to be reunited with Dad. Mom faced her trials with courage; after dads passing she had her house destroyed by a tornado, and then after that faced a battle with cancer. Her passing like her life, was quiet. She liked things done quietly and in order. She was not afraid to speak out when she felt a reminder was in order. She was someone that could always be counted on. Mom is survived by her 8 children (two, and one half dozen; as dad used to say) Laverna and husband Bill Unger of Steinbach, Margaret and husband Gladwin Penner of St. Mary's, Ontario, Gladys and husband Fred Bartel of Blumenort, Mary Ann and husband Norman Warkentin of Ste. Anne, Esther and husband Floyd Penner of Beausejour, Mel of Abbotsford B.C., Wilbert and wife Glena of Ste. Anne, and Carol and husband Lorne Penner of Ste. Anne. She leaves behind 35 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. As well she is survived by her twin sister Agnes Penner. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and 2 grandchildren, Grace Unger and Darryl Warkentin, by both parents, as well as 5 sisters and 6 brothers. We would like to thank the employees at Maplewood Manor for the 16 years of loving care they provided mother, especially in her last bedridden years. The viewing will be Wednesday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m., with a devotional at 8:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. The service will be held Thursday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenland Church of God in Christ – Mennonite, with interment at the church cemetery.
