It is with great sorrow, that we the family of Walter Farina, announce his sudden passing at his residence in Zhoda, MB on Monday, August 12, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife Irene; children Joe, Michelle (Mike), Shawna (David) and Vincent (Lori); grandchildren Curtis (Ashley), Bill (Kathy), Brett (Dawn), Kate (Adrian), Zachary and Gina; great-grandchildren Breanna and Will. He is also survived by his sister Margaret and brother Jim and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents Peter and Catherine; sisters Elsie and Dorothy and brother Maurice. Mom and Dad were married in 1961 in Zhoda and on August 5th of this year, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. Dad was a miner for many years in Ontario and Manitoba and he eventually took over the family farm in Zhoda, where he and Mom resided together for the next 36 years. Dad did not like to travel and was the happiest being on the farm working in his garden, cutting grass and puttering around. He could often be seen coming home with a bunch of wild flowers for our Mom. Dad was a prominent member of the community and made a point of introducing himself to all new neighbors. He was very often seen helping anyone out who needed a hand. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great joy to our Dad and he lavished affection on them all. Family get-togethers and dinners were one of the highlights of his life. Our hearts and souls have been deeply saddened with Dad's passing, however we know that his love and presence will surround us and provide comfort to us always. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 17 at 12:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Zhoda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. We would like to extend our gratitude to the many friends and family who have been there for us to show their love and support at this difficult time. We also would like to convey our gratitude for the guidance and compassion of the staff of Birchwood Funeral Chapel. You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived! Until we meet again sweet father and husband, we love you.
