Helena Toews went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 3:45 p.m., at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB, with her family at her side. Helen was born October 10, 1924 in New Bothwell, MB. She reached the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 21 days. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Randolph, MB in 1943. She married Jacob S. Toews on November 7th, 1943. They shared their married life together for 49 years, 1 month, and 15 days. She fought a good fight, and she kept the faith to the end. Helena is survived by her children: Cornie (Mary) of Steinbach, Maria (Ben Penner) of Steinbach, Nettie (Abe Dueck) of Sarto, Isaac (Sara) of Grunthal, Lena (Walter Doerksen) of Mitchell, and Henry (Rosie) of La Broquerie. She also leaves to mourn 41 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two brothers in Paraguay, one sister and one brother in Canada, two step-sisters-in-law in Canada, one step brother-in-law in Paraguay, and one half sister-in-law in Canada. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob S. Toews, two sons in infancy, her parents Isaac and Maria Dueck, three sisters, one son-in-law, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Sunday, May 4, 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in New Bothwell, MB on Monday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the church cemetery.
