Obituary of Ernest George Breen

It is with great sadness for the family to announce the sudden passing of Ernest George Breen, of Steinbach on May 7th, 2008. Ernie was born August 22, 1929 in Winnipeg (St. James). Ernie served 36 plus years as a Fire Fighter with the St. James/City of Winnipeg Fire Department, retiring as a District Chief in 1991. To cherish his memories he leaves to mourn his partner of 26 years Marie Farley, his children: Susan (Jake) Friesen, David (Debbie) Breen, Dawn Hildebrand, Bob (Lisa) Breen; grandchildren: Melody, Lindsay, Drew, Kyle, Ryan, Kevin, Holly, Shay, Miranda; great grandchildren: Brook, Savanna, Zachery and Brady; his sister-in-laws; Winnie (Brian) Smith and Marguerite Breen, along with many relatives and friends. Ernie was predeceased by his parents; Clara and Frederick, his brother Harold, his grandson Adam Friesen and the mother of his children; Shirley Breen (Johnston). Special thanks to the Doctors and Staff of the PD Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for the care that they gave to our dad. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ernie’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 13th, at 1:00 p.m. at Deer Lodge Community Club, 323 Bruce Ave., Winnipeg. A private burial will take place at Grunthal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Manitoba Branch), 730 Taylor Ave.; Wpg., R3M 2K8 or the City of Winnipeg Fire Fighter Burn Unit, 840 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 1S1
