Walter Sobering, age 71, of Steinbach, MB passed away peacefully on September 20, 2013 at Bethesda Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of almost 50 years Dora, and their four children, Geraldine (Travis Barre), Michael (Cyndi), Russ (Lorna) and Shauna Sobering; grandchildren Tynan (Alissa), Kylie, Brennan, Teagan, Tyler and Georgia; Nicole (Harve), Brianne (Wayne) and Devin; Riley, Dawsyn and Mark; Tristan and Austin; two sisters, five brothers and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and seven siblings. Walter was born on September 24, 1941 to Heinrich and Helena Sobering and lived his entire life in the east Steinbach area, working as a plumber at Barkman Plumbing and Heating and later for Hanover School Division in plumbing maintenance. He loved his family and grandchildren dearly and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and playfulness. His heart’s passion was animals of all species but especially his horse “Babe” and dog “Peeka”. Dad was very involved with his church and Southeast Helping Hands and was always willing to help a friend. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Bethesda Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion during this difficult time. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St, Steinbach with burial at Heritage Cemetery.
