Obituary of Wesley Klaas Reimer

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Wesley Reimer – beloved husband of Charlotte, on Saturday, March 5, 2011. He was born September 4, 1932 to Klaus and Mary Reimer. He is survived by his daughters Colleen Harmon (Tim), Allison Nebel (Joe) and three grandchildren: Sage, Nicolas and Ava, sister Wilma Suderman (Harold) and brother Edgar (Olga). He was predeceased by his parents and brother Raymond (Phyliss). Wes received his early education in Steinbach after which he worked for a few years to earn money for university. He enrolled at United College (University of Winnipeg) for one year and it was during that time he chose to study pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. He enjoyed his college years and made many life long friends. Wes and Charlotte Marshall were married after graduation and moved to Winnipeg. In 1964 they moved to Steinbach where Wes realized his dream of opening Reimer Pharmacy. In 1986 he sold the pharmacy and went to work for Manitoba Health as a Pharmaceutical Consultant. Around this time he entered civic politics and spent nine years on the Steinbach Town Council, three of those as Mayor. Subsequent to that he was appointed to and served on a Provincial Municipal board. During Wes’ years in Steinbach he was active in a number of areas serving his community which was important to him. He served on the United Church Board and was active with the Kinsman and their community projects. He was especially pleased when the Kinsmen purchased and donated property to the Community Living Organization (now Envision). During that time the first home for clients was built. Later Wes realized a need for supportive services for people with mental health issues. He then became involved with forming “Community Connections” and served as chairman for a number of years prior to that organization becoming “Eden East.” He was pleased to see the development of an office in Steinbach along with supportive housing. Wes and Charlotte enjoyed their cottage at Brereton Lake and many years of enjoyable travel to various areas of the world. When both daughters settled in California, they looked forward to and enjoyed their winters there, especially with their grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Wes’ life will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Free Church, 360 McKenzie Avenue, Steinbach, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eden East Health Care Services, 21 Loewen Blvd, Steinbach, MB R5G 0L4 or a charity of your choice.
