Obituary of Henry Kihn

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Henry Kihn in the early morning of October 12, 2013. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons Reece (Joanne) Kihn, Heath (Wendy) Kihn, and his daughter Kadri (Jamie) Pehkonon. Also left are his two granddaughters Shyla and Mikayla. Dad was predeceased by his wife Mary in January of 1985 and never remarried. Also gone before him are his brother Jack, and sisters Rose and Helen. Henry was born in Hochstadt on September 4, 1923 to Paul and Mathilda Kihn. His early years were spent working on the family farm and going to school until grade 8. Dad had many different jobs but it is when he was working with highways in Morris when he met Mary Regitnig that he decided he had found his gal. They were married on July 14, 1954 and spent 31 years together until Mom’s passing in 1985. Dad’s work was his hobby and it showed as he took great pleasure in operating equipment and kept his stuff in top running condition. If it is possible to over-service machines, that was his stuff for sure! He did excellent work at an honest price and this kept him very busy. He was still hauling gravel at the age of 85 and that was a testament as to his dedication to his work. Henry did not have much spare time but he did find a little to go hunting the odd time and do a little fishing as well. He truly loved what he did and what could be better than that? Dad was forced to retire as his health was slowly fading and after a bad fall in April, things took a turn for the worse. He managed to still joke around a bit but it was clear he was in rough shape. After a six month hospital stay and a very brief one at Menno Home in Grunthal, Dad took a long, deep sleep and never woke up. A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Steinbach, Dad’s funeral will be held there on Friday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy 12 south. Viewing will be at the church prior to the service. If friends desire, donations may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, MB R5G 0H1.
