Obituary of John Dueck

On Friday, October 18, 2013 John Dueck, 72 of Winnipeg, formerly of Paraguay and Niverville, passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris, his sons: Erwin Dueck and his wife Greta of Steinbach, Bill Dueck of Winnipeg, Leonard Dueck of Ontario, Edd Dueck and partner Erin Neilson of Ontario, daughters: Verna Harder and husband Gus of Winnipeg, Darlyn Simpson and husband Vaughn of Headingley, Karen Dueck of Winnipeg, daughter-in-law Shelley Golden of Winnipeg, 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Ken Dueck. John was born in Plum Coulee, Manitoba on June 8, 1941. His family moved to Paraguay, South America when he was 8 years old. He later married Doris on September 13, 1962. They moved back to Canada with their children in 1976, where he worked as a diesel mechanic most of his life. Aside from his wife, his greatest love was working in his shop. He also enjoyed helping friends and neighbors with fixing their vehicles or anything else that needed repairing. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Cancer Care Manitoba for the loving care they provided for John over the course of his illness. The funeral service will take place Monday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with burial at the church cemetery. Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 20 at 5:00 p.m. with a devotional at 5:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made to assist the family with funeral expenses.
