Obituary of Dale Eugene Gavel

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dale, announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother peacefully and with his family by his side on March 13, 2011 at the Grace Hospice in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dale was born in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan on June 15, 1944. After completing his high school, he went on to take his post secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan, before beginning his career with the Correctional Service of Canada. During his 33-year career, he served in a variety of capacities at SaskPen in Prince Albert, Oskana Centre in Regina, Regional Headquarters in Saskatoon, and retired from the position of Assistant Warden Correctional Programs in the Spring of 2000 ending an exemplary career during which he received many awards. Dale leaves behind his wife Aline (Sirois), their children Nicole (Kirby), Jason (Teresa), and their grandchildren Taylor, Sydney, Jordan and Emily. He was predeceased by his brother Gordon and parents Tom and Ellen Gavel. He is also survived by Gordon’s children, Greg (Kira) and Colleen (Rick) and their mother Joan, and Allison and her mother Andrea, his brother Eldon (Irene) and their children Darla (Scott) and Brian (Karen), as well as numerous aunts, uncles nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dale spent many years building a successful career. Following his retirement he enjoyed being with his family and working in his yard, landscaping and gardening. Dale also enjoyed travelling with his wife. A Prayer Service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame, Winnipeg on Thursday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood, Winnipeg on March 18 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospice, where Dale spent his final days. A special thank you to the staff at the Hospice who cared for Dale. You made it much easier for Dale and his family during this difficult time. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
