Obituary of Cicely Wallace

Cicely Audrey Wallace peacefully passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the hospital in St. Pierre, MB at the age of 90. Mom was predeceased by her parents Eva (Ming) & Tom Garton, her beloved husband John and her daughter Melanie. She is survived by her five sons: Robert, Chris (Roxanne), Ian, John (Lorie) and Donald; as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mom was born in Nottingham, England on March 9, 1923. She enjoyed her childhood years growing up along with her parents in Nottingham. As a young woman, she worked as a school teacher. She had a love of opera and was quite a talented singer, having recorded several opera pieces. She met R.C.A.F. Flight Lieutenant John Wallace in Derbyshire, England in 1943. They married in June, 1945 in Nottingham, England. Together, Cicely and John raised six children on the family farm in Niverville, MB. Mom was a dedicated wife and loving mother who loved cooking and entertaining for family and friends especially at holiday times, serving up favourites such as trifle and pork pies. Mom was an accomplished pianist/organist playing for the united church for many years. She was an active curler in the local curling clubs and loved to watch dad play baseball in the community baseball tournaments. Mom was also a freelance writer and occasional reporter for the Scratching River Post and the Carillon News. She was an avid reader of a great variety of literature and poetry. She had a love of the farm and wasn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty while raising six children. Together with dad, she helped plant over 10,000 trees on the farm. In her later years she took great pleasure in watching the wildlife wander outside the big picture window and she took great comfort in the many pets who were fortunate enough to find their way to her. Mom’s wish was to spend her final years living at the farm which she accomplished. She will be dearly missed by all. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the hospital in St. Pierre for their compassion and care. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Niverville United Church, 55 First St. N, Niverville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
