Obituary of Tina Penner

Tina Penner (nee Funk) was born in New Bothwell and passed away at Concordia Place. Tina was the youngest of seven children of Jacob and Agatha Funk. Her father died before she was born. Tina grew up on the farm in New Bothwell and after school worked in Steinbach. In 1952 she met Norman Penner and married in April of 1953. Mom was a homemaker who provided for her growing family for her entire life. She suffered numerous health problems over the years but she always kept her sense of humour. She and dad enjoyed going to the beach in the summer, camping, traveling to Ontario to visit relatives, and most importantly she loved being grandma to all the little ones that came along. They played a big part in her life. She and Dad had four children, Lorna (1953), Raymond (1956), Curt (1958), and Donald (1964). In 1961, Raymond who was age five, died in a pedestrian car accident. This was a huge loss and very difficult time in their lives. Their faith played a large role in dealing with this tragedy. Mom and Dad lived in the same house in Windsor Park from 1961 to July 2010 when they moved into the assisted living complex at Concordia Village. Dad had a fall, which led to complications and he passed away in Sept 2010. Mom remained there until the fall of 2011 when she had a stroke. She moved to Concordia Place Nursing Home in March of 2012. She thrived at Concordia Place with the wonderful care that the staff provided her and made many friends there with the staff and the residents. Mom will be missed by all those who loved her, especially her children: Lorna and John Dick of Toronto, Curt and Shelley Penner of Oakbank, and Don and Debbie Penner of London, Ontario; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Concordia Place, 1000 Molson St, Winnipeg, MB R2K 4L5 with viewing at 12:30. Interment will be at Mennonite Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Tina may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
