Obituary of Agatha Reimer

On March 21, 2011 at approximately 6:55 a.m., our dear Mother passed away peacefully to her heavenly home where she has longed to be for so long. She was born on May 21, 1922 in the R.M. of Hanover, in the Grunthal area. She was baptized upon her faith on May 29, 1939 at the Grunthal CMC. She married Cornelius K. Reimer on October 29, 1939. After living in the St. Malo area for a short time they moved to the Grunthal area where they lived and raised their family. They had five children. Agatha was predeceased by her husband Cornelius K. Reimer, daughter-in-law Mary, granddaughter Julie Reimer and two great granddaughters. She is survived by her sons Neil (Margaret) of Grunthal, Henry (Elizabeth) of Steinbach, Peter of Winnipeg, Dick (Norma) of Sarto and daughter Margaret (John) Rempel of Steinbach. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and their families. She is also survived by sisters Katherine Krahn of St Adolphe and Agnes Fehr of Steinbach. In mom’s younger years she worked on the beet field hoeing beets and topping beets. Mom also worked at the St. Malo sewing factory and at Granny’s Poultry for a while. When dad got sick they moved into Grunthal and mom went to work at the Menno Home. She worked nights doing laundry and also made the homemade soap which she used for this purpose. She was employed there for 18 years till her retirement in 1986. Mom struggled with asthma most of her life. She suffered a stroke in 1989 due to a brain tumor. She had surgery to remove the tumor and recovered remarkably well. She also struggled many years with poor eyesight due to macular degeneration. Mom enjoyed gardening and usually had her garden in before the rest of us. She enjoyed playing games with her sisters, and her next door neighbors the Bergens. Mom loved the Lord and gave generously to missions. Just a few days before her death she initiated a conversation about spiritual things and also expressed her desire to go and be with the Lord. Her wish was granted only days later. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ghebray, the chaplain and staff at Menno Home for the compassionate and loving care they provided. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover St, Steinbach with interment at Grunthal Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to CMC Missions Radio Ministry, Box 968; Steinbach, MB R5G 1M7.
