Obituary of Bernhard Reimer

Beloved husband, father, son and brother. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). (Bernie’s favourite verse) Bernie was born on December 1st, 1956 in Chihuahua, Mexico to his parents, Cornelius and Evelyn Reimer. His father was pleased to receive a son after having three daughters. Bernie was three months old when he became critically ill. His parents prepared themselves to release him to the Lord. However, he recovered and they realized they had been given Bernie twice. At the age of twelve, he rode his bicycle down a steep hill and lost control. He seriously injured himself but again, he recovered. He received his childhood education at Jagueyez, Mexico. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at a young age and was baptized at the age of 17. When he was 20 years old he moved to Canada where he continued his courtship with a lady named Anna, whom he had met in Mexico. On May 27, 1978, he married the love of his life, Anna Wiebe, with whom he shared 35 happy years. Together they drove truck for numerous years until he and his brother Alvin started a truck drivers training business in 1995, called Free Eagle. He continued working there until just a week prior to his death. For the first 10 years of their marriage, Bernie and Anna wondered if they would be able to have a family. God blessed them with a daughter on their 10th anniversary and gave them 3 more children. Bernie greatly cherished his role as a father. Bernie was a sociable people person, always willing to share God’s love with anyone. He was known as a kind-hearted, compassionate person. He had a great sense of humor and knew how to cheer people up. Two years ago, when he broke his arm, it was discovered that he had cancer. Cancer was found in his kidney as well as other places. He had surgery to remove the kidney in June, 2012. Bernie faced the next two years with courage and hope. The last week of his life, his health took a drastic downward turn and he passed from this life at 2:25 A.M. on Sunday, November 24, 2013. He is predeceased by his father Cornelius Reimer in 1981, one sister Linda Wiebe, 2001, and one brother and sister in their infancy. Bernie is survived by his beloved wife Anna, and children Felicia and Chris Barkman of Steinbach, Valida and Brenden Valks of Landmark, and sons Tyrone and Mico of Blumenort. He is also survived by his mother Evelyn Reimer of Blumenort, and siblings Irma and (Howard) Dueck of Mexico, Margaret and (John) Kornelsen of Mexico, Lavina and (Jake) Peters of Blumenort, Alvin and (Mildred) Reimer of Steinbach, Anne and (Gerry) Plett of Arborg, Liz and (Stan) Plett of Arborg, Cornie and (Helen) Reimer of Alberta, brother-in-law Pete Wiebe of Steinbach, Lydia and (Neil) Reimer of Texas and Evalina and (Bruce)Reimer of Arborg. He is also survived by his parents-in-law Gerhard and Maria Wiebe of Arborg and their large extended family as well as many nephews, nieces and friends who loved him dearly. His kindness and humor will live on in our hearts forever. -The Family Viewing will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Ridgewood Church, R.M. of Ste.
