Obituary of Aganetha Friesen

Aganetha Penner Friesen was born to Heinrich H. and Maria Penner on June 24, 1905 in Greenland, Manitoba. She passed on to her eternal reward June 28, 2008 in her room at Maplewood Manor reaching the age of 103 years. Before mother was five years old she lost her mother. In due time our grandpa married widow Mrs. Anna Rieger Dueck which provided a mother and also added a little brother (Albert). When mother was fourteen she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized April 27, 1920 by Hiram Mininger, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Mother expressed her love for the Church in numerous ways. She was a young sister in the Faith when in 1921 the General Conference convened in Greenland, Manitoba. She has related to us how the conference strengthened the daily wearing of the devotional head covering. In her resignation and acceptance of her lengthening of years the testimony and assurance of her salvation continued to grow. We remember mother as being energetic and she liked good order. She often expressed her appreciation for her “wonderful” family, children and grandchildren. Mother lost her dear father when she was almost twenty years of age. With step grandmother moving on to Steinbach our mother made her home with her sister Uncle Henry and Aunt Katherine Wohlgemuth till her marriage. Mother found her life’s companion in Henry Eidse Friesen. Their wedding was September 25, 1927 in the Greenland Church. To this union where born eight children. They resided in the Greenland community till they moved to Maplewood Manor in Steinbach. Mother keenly missed father after he passed away in January of 1995. She was longing so much to join him but “God’s thoughts are higher than mine”. Mother lived in Greenland all her life except for the last sixteen years when she resided in Maplewood Manor The earlier part of this time was in self-care and the last six years in full care. Mother appreciated the care very much. Left to cherish warm memories are her children: Earvey and Tina Friesen, Rosenort, Manitoba, Maynard and Marcella Friesen, Roblin, Manitoba, Darlene Ensz, Comstock, Wisconsin, Herbert and Leanna Friesen, Elma, Manitoba, Orville and Nina Friesen, Cartwright, Manitoba, Jesse and Henrietta Friesen, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; thirty-nine grandchildren; one hundred sixty great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Helen Wohlgemuth, Steinbach, Manitoba; one step sister-in-law Agatha Dueck, St. Adolphe, Manitoba. Those preceding her in death are: one daughter, one infant son, one son-in-law, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, her parents, three brothers( 2 in infancy), five sisters and one step-brother. We as a family are very grateful for the excellent care bestowed on our mother while residing in Maplewood Manor. A heartfelt thank-you to all of you caregivers! Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 1 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of God in Christ – Mennonite, in Greenland, with interment at the Church cemetery.
