Peacefully, on Monday, July 28, 2008 our wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Peter Cornelson passed away, with his loving family at his side to be with his Lord. He died at the Health Science Center in Winnipeg at the age of 85. Peter was predeceased by his wife Lena, October, 2007, his parents, one sister and two grandchildren. He is survived by four daughters: Marcella (LeRoy) Barkman, Elsie (Tim) Kroeker, Ruth (Lloyd) Rempel, Dorothy (Bob) Schinkel, 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother Ben (Sybil) Cornelson, and three sisters, Marie Doerksen, Anna Doerksen, and Helen Cornelson. Dad was born in Meade, Kansas on April 26, 1923. He married our mother Lena Reimer December 3, 1944 in Satanta, Kansas Dad had a variety of interests. Traveling was one of them so trucking for Penner International for 21 full-time years and 5 part-time was a perfect fit. As a family we enjoyed many driving vacations. Riding his motor-bike was one of Dad’s true loves. His son-in-law (Lloyd) had introduced him to the sport. He delighted in treating his grandchildren to many rides. Dad enjoyed numerous friendships. He was well known at various coffee shops; his coffee buddies were very special. In recent years due to vision impairment, he was dependant on others for rides to church, Bible Study, and coffee shops. As a family we want to say Thank-you to all. His family was very important to him. He cared for each and everyone of us and loved us all unconditionally. We will truly miss him. A viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel Thursday, July 31 at 7, a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, August 1, 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie, Steinbach with interment at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.
