Obituary of Elizabeth Hiebert

Elizabeth (Unger) Hiebert was born June 14th, 1920 in Manitoba. She was 88 years old. She went to be with the Lord on October 7, 2008, at 3:10 p.m. in her home at Niverville Place in Niverville. Elizabeth's parents were Henry and Katherina Unger. They lived in Niverville area while she was a young child. At the age of 11 Elizabeth had to leave her home because her parents could no longer support her and her three sisters. When she was 19, she lost her mother. Her father later remarried to Sarah Sawatzky and she received a 4th sister and two brothers. In 1938 she married Jacob T. Hiebert and lived in Canada for 10 years before moving to Paraguay where they spent the next 32 years. After that they travelled several times from Canada to Paraguay, visiting family and friends. They were married for 56 years before her husband passed away in 1994. Together they raised three children. Elizabeth was a soft spoken, gentle person who was always thinking of others first. She surrendered her life to Christ sometime around her 50's, after realizing what a simple gift it was. She attended the CMC Church in Niverville the majority of the time, enjoying its German Service. She served faithfully at the Niverville Thrift Store for many years. She enjoyed going to the Friendship Center each week and attended bible study with the other residents at Niverville Place. She loved to sew, cook and travel, and also spent much time knitting, blessing people with her slippers and teddy bears. She will be greatly missed by her two sons, Henry (Helen) Hiebert from Paraguay, Andy (Ann) Hiebert from Kenora, her daughter Erna (John) Sawatzky from Paraguay, sisters Anna Doerksen and Tillie (Ron) Lozinski, brothers John Unger and Raymond Unger. 17 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many other distant relatives. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Jacob T. Hiebert (1994); her parents, Henry and Katherina Unger, step-mother Sarah Unger, sisters Katherina Friesen and Marie Giesbrecht, five brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the friends and family for all the cards, well wishes, visits, meals and prayers. There is great sadness in her passing, but rejoicing that she is now in the eternal presence of Jesus. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment at Hespeler Cemetery in Niverville, MB
