Obituary of Kenneth Brian Dracass

Early Tuesday, May 3, 2011, Ken left his family to find greener pastures to plant his garden. He will be greatly missed by wife Betty, children Brian and Heather (Brian Heinrichs) and the great joy of his life, grandchildren Brenden and Kaeden Heinrichs. The games table at Bethesda place will have an empty chair now and his keen partners will have fond memories of evenings spent together. Ken was born June 5, 1947 in Carman, MB where he was raised and educated. His agricultural roots led to active participation in the 4-H movement, both as member and leader. Twenty-seven years of his adult life were spent as maintenance foreman with the Department of Highways before achieving the dream of owning his own business. Sports played an important part in Ken’s youth and recently he was the number one fan at hockey games involving his grandchildren. Surviving his memory are his mother, Ethel Dracass, of Nipawin, SK, his sisters Irene (Larry) Stevenson, Shirley (Corny) Ruiter and Helen (Brian) Wiebe, his brothers Barry (Jeanette) Dracass and Bruce (Carol Anne) Dracass, brother-in-law Dan Verbeke plus numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire health care team at Bethesda Place, the housekeeping staff and maintenance guys who gave Ken extra assistance or a boost when needed, doctors Darren Reimer and Dan Ilchyna, and to Chaplain Larry Hirst for his support and encouragement. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Place, 399 Hospital Street in Steinbach.
