Frieda was born on February 18, 1919, the third daughter of Gerhard W. Reimer and Anna P. Friesen. She passed away Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Rest Haven Nursing Home at the age of 89 years. She grew up in Steinbach, received her education there, and began her working career at the Styirite store near her home. She then took training as a practical nurse in Winnipeg, and worked at the Bethesda Hospital for many years. She especially enjoyed working in the obstetrics and delivery suite. Frieda was baptized and joined the E.M.B. Church in 1934. Church was important to her and she remained a member all her life. Frieda, Marie and her elderly mother lived in the family home on 2nd Street. Frieda was the caregiver to her mother for many years until her mother’s death in 1967. Some years later Marie and Frieda moved into Fernwood Apts. This was an enjoyable experience for both of them. Frieda usually took a backseat to the exuberant and talkative Marie. Marie’s death in 2000 was a big loss for Frieda because the two of them had always been together. When Frieda required extra care because of arthritis, she took up residence at the Rest Haven Home. Here she became an active participant in extended family celebrations, birthdays and holidays. She participated in residents committees, and always received visitors gladly, enjoying all the students that visited her. She was appreciative of the care given to her by staff, and they appreciated her cooperative spirit. Family thought of her as a good role model. She was always positive and thankful for her care. Frieda was the last remaining member of the G.W. Reimer family, preceded in death by eight brothers and six sisters. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and friends. A special thank you to Rest Haven staff and their volunteers. We thank people that sat by her side these last weeks. We will miss Frieda and her ready smile. The funeral service was held December 14, 2008 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment at Memorial Cemetery in Steinbach.
