Obituary of Henry Kornelsen

Saturday, December 18, 2010, Henry W. Kornelsen, age 83, peacefully went into the presence of Jesus, with his family by his side. Henry was born in McTavish, Manitoba, lived in Kleefeld and completed grade eight in Ridgewood. At age 18, Henry left to work in a harvest crew in the USA. This was followed by logging in Vermillion Bay and working at P. B. Reimer Store in Steinbach. He also started a construction company with his brother Tony, as well as farming. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at the age of 18 and was baptized in the Blumenort Church. He married Tina Reimer on May 21, 1950. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Tina, of 60 years, six daughters: Luella (Tony) Hiebert, Janice (John) Barkman, Grace (Cornelius) Plett, Phyllis (Jerry) Plett, Bernice (Herman) Wiebe, Mavis (Gary) Unger; four sons: Garry (Sharon), Wayne, Mark (Sheryl), Reg (Sherri), 24 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters and their spouses, two sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his parents, George and Annie Kornelsen, one grandchild Danae, two brothers and one sister. Dad was part of the outreach from the Blumenort Church, instrumental in starting the Ridgewood Church, elected minister in 1959, elected pastor in 1964 and continued in that ministry for 28 years. This was followed by five years of church planting in Fort Frances, Ontario and various short term ministries in Mexico, Paraguay, Niverville, Creighton, SK, Leamington, ON and Paradise Village in Ste. Anne. He served as moderator at EMC Conference for six years and SBC board for 16 years. Dad’s caring, unselfish heart, and enduring faith, ruled his life. The family wishes to thank Dr. Krahn and the Rest Haven nursing staff for the tender loving care given to Dad. If friends so desire donations may be made to EMC Missions (Guadalajara church plant in Mexico), 440 Main St.; Steinbach, MB R5G 1Z5 Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ridgewood Church. Interment at church cemetery.
