Obituary of Peter N. Dueck

PETER N. DUECK Peter N. Dueck, of Steinbach, born September 1, 1924 passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. He is survived by his second wife, Susan (nee Wiebe), and his children, Edna (Don) Russell, Betty Anne (Dennis) Braun, Andrew (Gwen) and Doreen (Rick) Penner; step children Henry (Margaret) Braun, Menno (Anne) Braun, Johanna (Richard) Klassen, Dennis (Betty Anne) Braun, Edna (Richard) Patenaude, Dianne (Vince) Goertzen. He had 29 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Anne (nee Klassen) in August of 1991, his parents, one sister and three brothers. Dad was born in Halbstadt, Manitoba to Cornelius and Elizabeth Dueck and attended the Woolwich School where he finished grade 8. As a young boy, his biggest goal was to finish high school and go to university. This was not to be due to a ruptured appendix and after his time in the hospital, he couldn’t go back to school. From his early years he showed perseverance and determination. After school, Dad did various farm work. Uncle Cornie and Dad farmed North West of Grunthal. It was during this time that he met Anna Klassen and they later got married July 1, 1951. The farm did not become a growing concern so mom and dad moved to Winnipeg. Dad took on various jobs throughout their time in Winnipeg, such as: dry walling and flooring. He and Anna finally resided in Steinbach after some years of working in sales and as a hydro yard man. He retired after spending many years as a bus driver for Hanover School Division. Dad was a man after God’s own heart. He will be fondly remembered for many things, particularly his passionate involvement in the church, and his rich and diligent prayer life. A day did not pass that he didn’t pray for each of his children. He had a deep and lasting faith in God. He had a playful sense of humour, which his grandchildren loved and will remember. He loved music and encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue and enjoy music. Dad was a man who took seriously his responsibility to provide and care for his family. He also extended this passion to share sacrificially with others. Nothing made him happier than being able to serve those in need, whether it was through prayer, giving financially, or an ear to listen at three in the morning. We will miss Dad’s presence in our lives. We love you, Dad. We, as a family would like to gratefully thank the staff at Rest Haven and Bethesda Hospital, as well as homecare, and a special thank you to Dr. Duerksen for the care that you gave our Dad. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Gospel Fellowship Church, 860 Main St, Steinbach on Thursday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Grunthal Cemetery.
