Obituary of Agnes Toews

It was with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Agnes Toews on Thursday, January 22, 2009. She is survived by her children Eva (Peter) Kehler of Steinbach and Eddie (Gerri) Toews of B.C., 13 grandchildren and their spouses; 21 great grand children and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Peter Toews in 1967, sons Henry and Jake, thee infant sons and numerous brothers and sisters. Mom was born in the Moray District on Oct. 24, 1915 and was orphaned at the young age of fifteen. She was married to Peter Toews on July 10, 1934 and purchased a farm in the Silberfeld area. Over the years they moved and owned several business which included moving to Paraguay twice. On December 1, 1967 they bought A & A Restaurant in Steinbach but tragedy struck, dad died of heart attack and Henry died a month later in a car accident. Through all this mom was a survivor and continued on, working very hard. She was a very determined person, she bought houses and renovated them and also later purchased another restaurant known as Pioneer Inn. Her hands were always busy cooking up a great meal or making a beautiful quilt for a family member or a charity. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep at Cedarwood Apartments at the age of 93. The family would like to express thanks to the staff at Cedarwood for their patience and compassionate care.
