ALVIN PODJAN Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Al Podjan, 68, of Niverville, passed away at the St. Pierre Hospital, on January 27, 2009. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, two daughters: Laurel and fiancé Darren Dunsmore, and Shannon and fiancé Rob Hines, beloved grandson Xavier Curtaz, two brothers, two sisters, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Gus and Martha. Al worked for 40 years in the plumbing and heating business and was highly respected for his fairness, leadership and professionalism. He spent many years organizing blood donor clinics, helping on the health board, the original town council, the Niverville United Church Board. He worked with his backhoe for the Niverville Funeral Aid Society, where, with his helpful knowledge of plot locations, he was a real asset. He also owned and maintained the Niverville Car Wash. The support Al and his family received from our friends and the community, and our extended family was touching to say the least. The never ending passing of kind words and genuine concern has made a permanent mark on our family. Special thanks to the staff at the St. Pierre Hospital, palliative care workers, Drs. Chris and Mairi Burnett. Al always believed that it’s what you give in life that makes it meaningful. In the spirit of this good man, do something for someone else today.
