Obituary of John Doerksen

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry.” Psalms 34:15 The prayer of John F. Doerksen of Niverville, MB, was answered on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, when his heavenly Father called him home at the age of 77 years. John was born to Heinrich and Katharine (Friesen) Doerksen on Nov. 15, 1931 in the RM of Ritchot. On June 1, 1952, John was baptized and accepted into the membership of the Chortitzer Church in Randolph. John married Eva Kehler on March 1, 1953, and shared almost 56 years of marriage with her. John and Eva farmed in the Niverville area for most of their life. John also ran a private school bus for four years. He was involved in the church in various ways, serving on the maintenance board, the mission board and as church treasurer. John was admitted to Steinbach Bethesda Hospital on January 10, 2009. Here his struggle with diabetes, loss of sight, congestive heart failure and cancer ended after a 17-day stay. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Eva, two daughters: Irene (Peter Ginter), Katherine (Kelvin Plett), all of Landmark; four sons: Leonard (Leona) of Niverville, Clarence (Linda) of Austin, Peter (Verna) of MacGregor, and Donald (Valerie) of Niverville; 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Katherine (Abe) Unger, Betty (John) Kehler, all of Niverville; two brothers: Henry of Niverville and Jake (Anne) of Tourond. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister-in-law. Viewing will be held at the Niverville Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 99 First St. S., in Niverville; on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. with at devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 2, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. also at the Niverville CMC.
