Obituary of Kurt Oster

On June 6, 2011 at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Kurt laid down his need for wheel chairs, mind-numbing medication and pureed food. He left behind a tongue that could no longer form words, and he now lifts his voice in a burst of joy to his Father, clearly enunciating every beautiful vowel and consonant known to the children of earth. Kurt was born on November 23, 1940 in Rochlitz, in the German province of Saxon. He was a very intelligent and gifted child who loved a good joke. During puberty, epilepsy shadowed Kurt and slowly stole away his health. He never complained. Instead, he comforted his mother whose heart broke to see her son’s suffering. Mom cared for Kurt with a love that was relentless and which acknowledged no limitations. In his final hour, she caressed him through his seizures and spoke gently to him of blessings to come when all his suffering would turn to joy. Kurt was predeceased by his father, Rudolf Oster; two brothers, Wilfred and Edmund; as well as by his brother-in-law Reg Krentz. He is survived by his mother, Ella Oster; two sisters, Ilse Krentz Ens (Phil) and Nell (Ken); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Kurt is whole again. On butterfly wings the color of glory, he has found God’s beacon of welcome and has followed it safely home. We are grateful. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bethesda Foundation, 316 Henry St., Steinbach, MB R5G 0P9
