Suddenly on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at the age of 78, Lou passed away at his home in Mitchell, MB. He was predeceased by his parents John and Magdelena (Harring). Lou is survived by his loving wife Rachel (Chatel) of 49 years; his brothers, John (Veronica), Tony, and Val (Joanne) and their families. Lou was born on Nov. 26, 1930 in Winnipeg, MB. Lou, along with his brothers, helped run the family butcher shop in Winnipeg. In 1945 the family sold the business and moved to Marchand, where he helped out with the family farm. Lou also cut pulpwood in the area and this interest helped him land a job as a Forest Ranger in 1959. His first posting was Woodridge, where he met the love of his life, Rachel Chatel. Lou and Rachel were married on Oct. 1, 1960. During his career, Lou and Rachel were stationed in Woodridge, Piney, Lac du Bonnet, Winnipeg East, Whitemouth and later he retired in Steinbach as a fire control officer. His hobbies included gardening, computers, electronics, and playing with his dog Sandy. Cremation has taken place. A family service is to be held at a later date.
